Summary:

Basic Concepts, Inc. (BCI) is seeking aProduct Design Engineerto join their operation in Anderson, SC. TheProduct Design Engineerperforms design functions to develop new or redesign existing company products. Under broad direction, works from requirements or instructions to design and develop complex new components or redesign existing components to improve company products. Determines and establishes specifications through engineering calculations and layouts. Oversees the assembly and tests of engineering prototypes.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares R & D requests and justifications. Responsible for R & D of new product lines.
  • Works with marketing to develop specifications for new or redesigned products including innovation, chemical compatibility, ergonomics, look and feel, etc.
  • Oversees preparations of drawings, procedures, sketches, etc., necessary for the development of new products or redesign of existing products.
  • Ability to write and edit technical instructions.
  • Assists Marketing department in sales presentations, catalogs, and general advertising literature.
  • Responsible for the care of a broad variety of materials and experimental products.
  • Conducts a continuous search of new materials, processes, and procedures for new products to enhance and improve existing products with the following considerations: Chemical compatibility, EPA and SPCC requirements, and manufacturing processes, i.e. fabrication, plastic heat welding, coated fabric converting, material handling and automation.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Engineering discipline required. Courses in Production and Process Engineering are a plus.
  • A minimum of five to eight years of Manufacturing and related Engineering experience required.
  • Knowledge and experience of automated and semi-automated equipment, fabrication processes in the area of plastic welding, sheet forming from flat format raw materials to 3D shapes, to include programming and troubleshooting such processes.
  • Knowledge and experience in the areas of automated forming equipment, automated welding, blanking lines, roll forming, and other fabrication processes including programming and troubleshooting such processes.
  • Experience working in a team environment preferably with a small to medium size company.
  • Proven experience in idea generation to reduce costs and improve quality.
  • Proven experience working with Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with Solid Works or similar 3D CAD and ERP software.
  • Proven experience implementing new product and processes with demonstrated leadership in project management.
