Utah Small Business Credit Initiative (USBCI),

a federal $69 million loan program to expand access to capital for small businesses in Utah.

The Director will work with the managing director of business services, to help determine the strategy and implementation of USBCI. They’ll oversee the USBCI team, including a program manager, analyst, and other team members as deemed necessary and appropriate. As director, they’re responsible for interfacing with other office teams, internal and external stakeholders, and partners in the management and administration of the program. They’ll also contribute as a business services leadership team member with the group’s four other directors.

Depending on the team’s needs, the person hired for this position may work in a hybrid on-site and remote work situation.

Principal Duties Manage Utah's State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) relationship with the U.S. Department of the Treasury

Foster relationships with federal, state, and community partners

Recruit, enroll, and manage relationships with Utah lending partners

Recruit, train, and collaborate with Utah economic development organizations so they understand USBCI and how it can benefit them and Utah small business

Ensure collaboration with lending partners for an adequate loan application pipeline and distribution of federal funds according to office and USBCI goals

Manage the Utah Small Business Credit Initiative policy, process, strategy, and direction

Work with the GOEO operations team and other stakeholders to ensure the program is compliant with federal and state regulations

Ensure federal and state reporting is completed accurately and on time

Manage the program budget, staff, and resources; contribute effectively to lead by example

In partnership with GOEO's marketing communications team, create the program's communications strategy and manage its implementation

Proactively plan for various types of loan and program scenarios

Ensure the program achieves its goals of expanding access to capital and lowering interest rates for small business borrowers, especially in underserved communities

Establish and oversee technical assistance programs as deemed necessary and appropriate

As one of the business services team program directors, contribute and provide leadership for the group of about 25 state workers

Serve as GOEO's and the state's SSBCI expert, working with all stakeholders to ensure appropriate education and awareness of the federal program

The ideal candidate will have the following: Experience in banking, particularly small business lending

A vision and passion for what the USBCI program can do to expand access to capital to Utah small businesses

Ability to examine complex problems and work out solutions

An accomplished leader who thrives in a collaborative environment

Friendly, personable, and knows how to build and maintain partnerships and relationships effectively

Familiarity working with federal and state regulations

Knowledge of the financial services industry and comfortable working with numbers

Ability to work with diverse stakeholders to accomplish team objectives

Working knowledge of Google Apps, Microsoft Office Suite, Salesforce, Basecamp, and virtual meeting tools, including Google Meet and Zoom

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

An organized, process- and detail-oriented team player
