Job/Position Summary:
This position is under the direct supervision of the Executive Director ….. Maintenance Director. The person in this position ensures the prompt arrival and return of facility residents to and from physician appointments and activities. This position involves the responsibility for the safe operation of facility vehicles in transporting elderly persons. This individual typically transports residents to clinics, hospitals or other treatment facilities from nursing homes or private residences as well as activity outings. This individual must possess a valid state driving license and must complete training enabling them to provide First Aid and CPR to residents being transported in case of an emergency.
Essential Functions
:
Maintains daily transportation schedules
Complies with all current state driving
regulations and restrictions, including the mandatory use of seatbelts
when operating a facility vehicle
Transports and returns residents from scheduled
appointments as well as scheduled outings utilizing passenger vehicle or
facility bus
Establishes a positive working relationship with
doctors, hospitals and medical clinics
Administers first aid and CPR in the case of an
emergency to residents in transit
Completes records showing resident name,
destination, mileage and other related information as requested
Ensures that vehicles are clean, safe and
adequately supplied with fuel; checks oil, fluids and tire pressure
Maintains records on community vehicles, including
but not limited to mileage and maintenance requests to environmental services
director
Coordinates with receptionist before 8:00 p.m. the
night before to establish an arrival time the following morning (one half
hour prior to the first scheduled appointment)
Ensures resident’s safety on outings and contact
9-1-1 if there is an emergency situation (i.e. a resident falls)
Adheres to prescribed safety and sanitation
practices and procedures
Follows established vehicle maintenance check
lists
Knowledge of the operation of assigned passenger
vehicles
Knowledge of roadways and traffic regulations of
the area
Ability to react quickly and calmly in
emergencies
Other Requirements and Duties
Wear uniform and name tag as to be easily
identifiable to residents, families, visitors, vendors, etc.
Demonstrate proper written, telephone and
electronic communication courtesy and etiquette (i.e. promptly returning
voicemails/emails)
Promote teamwork among coworkers by helping
without being asked, demonstrates flexibility by accepting reassignments
Acknowledge residents, staff, visitors, etc.
promptly and courteously creating a welcoming environment
Use effective verbal and non-verbal communication
skills with consideration to age appropriate issues
Assess resident’s needs and initiates action to
appropriate contact (i.e. resident care director, vendor, etc).
Wash hands prior to and after resident contact
Knock on door and identifies self prior to
entering
Maintain positive relationships with residents,
families and physicians.
Understand and follows safety and infection
control policies and procedures. Provides oversight to ensure appropriate
infection control procedures are followed by staff
Ensure that all equipment is operational. Report
to environmental services director all hazardous situations, including
broken equipment, lights, damaged furniture, and similar unusual
circumstances
Comply with HIPAA regulations
Attend all required in-services, department &
staff meetings
All other tasks as assigned by the supervisor
Provides assistance to other departments as
needed
Assists with evacuation of residents in case of
emergency
Hours and days may
change from week-to-week as needed.
Required Education and Experience
Valid driver’s license; maintain a clean driving
record.
Valid first aid and CPR certification
One year experience in driving long term care
environment
Ability to get along with others, particularly
the elderly
To work as part of a team
H.S. education or G.E.D.
Dependable and punctual
18 years of age
