License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia Class C Driver's License required. Georgia Structural Pest Control Commission Certification in Category 29 Household Pest Control required; or must be a Registered Technician and obtain Operator Certification in Category 29 within six months of hire. Failure to obtain certification in prescribed time or failure to maintain certification may result in termination. Additional Georgia Commercial Applicator License in one or more of the following Categories 17, 30, 31, 35, or 41 preferred.
Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience Qualifications: Two years experience in commercial and/or institutional pest control field operations as a Certified Operator, or fours years experience as a Registered Technician is required.
Skills Qualifications: Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) techniques applicable to large school environments; knowledge of the federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the legal, safe, and effective application of restricted use pesticides in a school environment, and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the Georgia Structural Pest Control Act, and the Rules of the Georgia Structural Pest Control Commission; ability to read, understand, and follow pesticide labels, labeling materials, technical instructions, and Material Safety Data Sheet information for restricted use pesticides and other non-restricted pest control materials and equipment; knowledge of the mechanical function, design, and purpose of common equipment and tools used in the practice of IPM and skills in the use, maintenance, cleaning, and basic repair of such tools and equipment; effective oral and written communication skills to determine customer needs, discuss solutions, and provide excellent service; ability to research pest control techniques, characteristics, and aids for identifying unknown pests and determining additional control methods that can be employed for effective resolution of an existing pest problem; and computer skills with word processing, computerized maintenance management, digital camera interface, and related software used within the pest control operation. Ability to safely operate a passenger vehicle.
Primary Responsibilities: Perform pest control inspections, treatments, services, and contractor oversight required to safely and effectively implement, maintain, and improve the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program of Gwinnett County Public Schools, according to federal, state, and local laws or regulations, accepted principles and best practices, at all GCPS locations.
1. Implement, maintain, and improve the GCPS Integrated Pest Management program for effective prevention and treatment of pest problems at all GCPS locations.
2. Provide excellent customer service when determining customer needs, discussing solutions, and performing pest control actions.
3. Perform emergency or other appropriate treatments and applications safely, effectively, and in a timely manner in compliance with federal, state, and local laws or regulations.
4. Supervise or review field operations of contract pest control service providers or assigned part-time or miscellaneous employees.
5. Maintain accurate records of restricted use pesticide applications and inventories of all pest control materials and equipment in compliance with federal, state, and local laws or regulations, and GCPS requirements.
6. Complete necessary training to maintain GCPS required licensing, and seek to continually improve skills by remaining knowledgeable of federal and state requirements of pesticide application, storage, handling, and disposal.
7. Operate GCPS vehicles safely in accordance with local, state and national laws, and complete associated tasks such as fueling and checking fluids.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, negotiate stairs, climb ladders, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear, manipulate tools and small items with hands, and lift and transport up to 50 pounds over short distances. The employee is required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of duties. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The employee may be subjected to a wide range of ambient temperature and humidity conditions while working outdoors or indoors under varying conditions including overhead work and work in confined spaces. Potential hazards of this position include contact with biological species that may inflict harm by various means including biting, stinging, injecting venom, or transmitting disease. Other potential hazards include the use of pesticides, other chemicals, and solvents; inspecting and treating elevated building features and fixtures, such as flag poles, lights, signs and awnings using ladders or other lifting devices; and working with electrical, mechanical and rotating equipment, including spreaders, spray rigs, foggers, and propane powered tools, that produce heat, noise and vibration.
