Role This role will focus on the Mortgage Lending processing and underwriting mortgage loans within established limits based on Jr. underwriting role.Major Duties and Responsibilities •Evaluates financial data: Researches the applicant's income, assets, and credit history, which include reviewing loan documents. Verifies employment, assesses credit cards and scores, and reviews loan conditions. •Analyzes tax returns, appraisals, title commitments, etc. to make a decision as to approvability of request. Makes Underwriting decision based on credit union policies and procedures and adhering to all compliance requirements that apply. •Assesses property documentation: Examines insurance, sales contracts, and appraisals for value. Performs risk assessments: Determines the risk level of an applicant based on credit rating, borrowing history, and other specific risk factors and Finalizes loan approval or rejection: Collaborating with a loan officer to approve or reject loan applications. •Prepares loan file for closing, verifying adequate insurance coverage and mortgagee Listings, generates closing documents and verifies lender fees are paid as requested. Performs compliance checks for Ability to repay and Qualified Mortgage guidelines. Maintains working knowledge of FNMA Secondary Market guidelines to perform loan Origination for loans sold to Secondary Market Investor. •Reviews incoming data and communicates this with the MLO of any potential issues or problems. Verifies income calculations and corrects as per written Verification of Employment. Reviews Self-employed Cash Flow Analysis and communicates any discrepancy with the MLO. Reviews Credit report to make sure there is nothing that was overlooked by MLO. •Responsible to communicate errors with the MLO. Recalculates front and back end ratios and compares to DU findings. Prepares submission to underwriter, making sure everything is completed and verified as per DU findings. •Orders Appraisals, title requests and Reviews Appraisal and Title Commitment in its entirety, any Appraisal correction request that needs to be made will be done by the processor. They will request Title update or correction if needed. Requests Evidence of insurance with mortgagee clause and loan number.•Submits processed loan to underwriter. Once file is underwritten, reviews conditional approval and goes over underwriting conditions with Loan Originator. Works conditions along with the loan originator and gets them resubmitted to Underwriter for final approval. •Requests termite inspection report via email to the Real Estate Agents. Reviews termite inspection report, if any active infestations, this must be communicated with the loan originator to discuss with agents for a solution. •Coordinates closing date with the Loan Originator and Closing Coordinator, then schedules closing also adding it to the Mortgage Calendar, if a closing date extension is required, make sure the loan Originator requests a closing date extension and it is added to the sales contract in the file. •Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control. h Demand of myself, and others, the highest levels of integrity, leadership, accountability and teamwork. •Any other duties as assigned by manager.Knowledge and SkillsExperience3+ years' experience with Mortgage processing. Experience and or training in Mortgage UnderwritingEducation/Certifications/LicensesHigh School diploma or equivalent is required Current NMLS preferred Secondary education including Mortgage Certification(s) preferred.Interpersonal SkillsThe ability to motivate or influence senior level personnel, internally or externally, is a key component of the job, requiring a significant level of expertise, credibility, influence and trust. Proficiency in developing and delivering material presentations on complex topics can be important to fulfilling the responsibilities of the position. The inability to communicate at this level would disqualify the individual from being able to fulfill their job responsibilities.Other SkillsIs responsible for a width of information including but not limited to: the organizations current mortgage loan interest rates, commitment/rate lock/relock fee procedures, consumer loan products/rates/guidelines that are used in conjunction with Mortgage Lending (Execulines, second mortgage products, swing loans, land loans, etc.), Bankpro loan origination software system. Ability to provide excellent member service. Above average communication skills, Time Management, and the ability to prioritize tasks while meeting required time lines and production goals.ADA Requirements Physical RequirementsPerform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of travel by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.Working ConditionsMust be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled private office with minimal noise.Mental and/or Emotional RequirementsMust be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team.
