Human Resources Assistant

Salary hiring range $17.00 - $22.00 Depending on Experience

We are a fast-paced, growing construction company that delivers safety, quality, and on-time work, that specializes in heavy civil construction that includes earthwork, concrete work, steel erection and more.

The Human Resources Assistant assists the HR Manager in the daily operations of the human resources functions, duties, and responsibilities while helping to maintain a positive workplace atmosphere. The Human Resources Assistant will focus on establishing partnerships with all departments and senior management to support the delivery and execution of HR processes including but not limited to recruitment, on-boarding, benefits administration, employee engagement, and more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists with recruitment processes by working with the HR Manager and the Construction Dispatch team.
  • Assist the HR Manager with updating employee data in electronic and paper files.
  • Assists with processing Workers' Compensation claims and requests for Family and Medical Leave.
  • Assists the HR team with reports related to applicant and employee complaints, internal investigations, and employee grievances, and prepares ad hoc reports.
  • Processes pay changes, promotions, and probationary documents.
  • Assists with new employee orientation (benefits and culture presentation).
  • Perform administrative duties using standards and prescribed procedures with limited supervision.
  • Interact with internal and/or external customers to answer basic questions and resolve problems within prescribed guidelines.
  • Assist with maintaining the HRIS system and compile reports from the system as needed.
  • Maintain and create employment files (active, medical, and terminated employees).
  • Maintain data integrity.
  • Process new hire paperwork and terminations.
  • Process Employee Change requests for all employees as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct exit interviews and separations as needed.
  • Assist with open enrollment administration as needed.
  • Assist with the performance planning process.

Required Qualifications
  • Human Resources Certificate or equivalent job experience. (equivalent job experience would be 2 years' experience).
  • One or more years of Human Resources Assistant experience in a corporate environment.
  • Knowledge of a wide variety of HR concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of employment law including ERISA, FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and COBRA.
  • Strong skills in interpersonal communication, writing, and organization.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with great sensitivity.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and high motivation.
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, and HRIS systems)
  • Must possess a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift 25-50 lbs.
  • Must pass a background check and a pre-employment drug test
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with Foundation software systems
  • aPHR, PHR, or SHRM -CP certification.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates at a professional construction office, requiring the ability to communicate with verbally others on-site, in person, and over the telephone, the ability to read printed materials, signs, and directions, the stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions, the ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work and safety requirements to navigating and perform job duties in a safe manner.
