The ideal Data Communications Manager candidate will have a combination of data visualization skills that illustrate the case for transformative climate policy; data science skills relevant to race, gender, class, and/or climate justice; and the ability to work across the Climate and Community Project’s diverse research areas to drive greater impact from our cutting edge research.About Our Quantitative Research and Communications Priorities:The Climate and Community Project works with movement and academic partners to build the case for climate mitigation and adaptation policy that is racially just, supports working people, and is internationalist in its outlook. Our work covers a vast range of economic sectors and topics, including energy, transportation, housing, labor, education, international financial architecture, militarism, industrial policy, and more. Our work often contains sophisticated quantitative data on topics ranging from jobs modeling to critical mineral demand for the transition to zero carbon transportation systems; however, this work is often hidden in our detailed research reports or presented in dry tables and graphs. With additional staff leadership, we could also increase our depth and range of quantitative analysis. This successful candidate will boost our capacity to communicate the findings from our research; support our staff, fellows, and contractors with quantitative research design and execution; and contribute to the overall development of our overarching communications strategy.CCP is looking for an outstanding candidate who is aligned with our vision, wants to make a positive impact through their work, and is excited to help create an organization where everyone can thrive. Create impactful, beautiful visualizations of CCP’s research findings that can go in reports, circulate on social media, press pitches, and accessible political education materials to help shape public narratives on climate policyData science proficiencies:

Manage quantitative work across issue areas, including by contracting modeling specialists for a range of projects. Where possible, contribute to and support data analysis in research projects. We are open to candidates with a range of data science specializations, including experience in GIS mapping, quantitative jobs/economic modeling, greenhouse gas modeling, or other kinds of data science skill sets.Liaise with and manage external contractors:

Competently and efficiently engage with external data contractors for research needs outside of the candidate’s core skill set.Campaigning mindset:

Bring a campaigning and narrative crafting mindset – experience using data visualization to tell compelling narratives, build advocacy campaigns, and/or help shift public opinion. Someone who thrives on communicating and telling stories with data in collaboration with researchers and advocates to win a future of climate, economic, and racial justice.Experience and Skills:Commitment to Justice & Equity:Commitment to race, gender, class, and climate justice.Recognizes how their identities show up in the work, and welcome, reflect on, and act on feedback with an eye toward continuous learning about race, gender, ability, and other lines of difference.Data visualization expertise:Experience creating high impact visualizations of quantitative data that tell powerful stories about climate, racial, and economic justice.Skills with relevant software packages necessary to produce data visualizations that make lasting impressions on viewers that inspire action for transformative climate policy.Strong written and verbal communications skills, including the ability to communicate across a range of stakeholders including movement allies, scholars, policymakers, unions, etc.Ability to work closely with and manage technical quantitative experts, and preferred proficiencies in quantitative modeling and/or spatial analysis.Data science specialization in one or more relevant fields is an asset, but not required.Campaigning Mindset:Has a campaigning mindset, contextualizing research projects and data visualization within the political economy and movement partner ecosystem.Some experience with high visibility social media circulation of graphical work.Ready to win progressive climate policiesTeam Player:A resilient and flexible team player who is a fast learner, can handle a fast paced, highly collaborative team culture. Able to work with fellows, staff, and partners spread across multiple geographies and willing to support colleagues who are less fluent in quantitative methods.Effective time management skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks, with light supervision.Ability to manage external data contractors and coordinate project timelines and deliverables.Organizational Relationship:The Data Communications Manager reports to the Communications Director and Research Director, and collaborates with other staff, consultants, fellows, and partners.Location:This is a fully remote position with the selected candidate needing to be located within the United States. Some travel will be expected– about one week of travel every two months.Time:This is a full-time, exempt position working an average of 40 hours a week. At times, evening and/or weekend work may be needed to complete tasks.Physical Demands:Ability to work at a computer for 8 hours per day.
