Student Services Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  2. Hold a valid Professional Leadership Certificate as set forth by the Alabama State Board of Education.
  3. Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university required.
  4. A minimum of 3 years successful teaching experience in elementary education or at the secondary level is required.
  5. A minimum of 3 years of successful educational leadership experience is required.
  6. Experience in planning and implementing professional development activities for adults.
  7. Knowledge of Lee County Schools' Board policies.
  8. Valid Alabama driver license, reliable transportation, and evidence of insurance.
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Background Check Required: (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

REPORTS TO: Student Services Director

JOB GOALS:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendents of Curriculum and Instruction:
  1. Facilitate the system's student attendance program.
  2. Develop and implement a student attendance incentive program.
  3. Implement the Early Warning/Truancy Program and attend court proceedings as assigned.
  4. Collaborate with safety personnel and intervention specialists (law enforcement, mental health specialists, intervention and resource specialists, school counselors, etc.) to manage situations and students of concern.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:
  • Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Complete assigned tasks by immediate supervisors and/or superintendent in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
  • Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.

Student Attendance and Residency:
  1. Develop and implement a student attendance incentive program.
  2. Secures the enrollment and attendance of all mandatory school-age children within each attendance zone.
  3. Monitors residency requirements and reviews documents submitted by parents and/or guardians.
  4. Conducts home visits.
  5. Investigates all reported cases of non-enrollment or nonattendance.
  6. Gives the parent, guardian, or other person having charge or control of a school-age child written notice-requiring attendance within three (3) days from the notice date, when there is no valid reason for the non-enrollment or nonattendance.
  7. Keeps accurate records of all notices served, cases prosecuted, and services performed.
  8. Provide training for school attendance personnel (registrars and/or attendance clerks).
  9. Participate in professional growth and development and stay abreast of current research through continuing education, educational seminars, workshops, conferences, membership in professional organizations, and attendance at district-sponsored professional learning activities.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Student Services Director and/or the Superintendent.
Threat Assessment Coordinator:
  1. Provides training and consultation to Building Site Teams and multi-agency partners regarding threats, violence, and management of situations and students of concern.
  2. Facilitates multi-agency Student Threat Assessment Teams.
  3. Coordinates Student Threat Assessment Team responses throughout the district.
  4. Conducts threat assessments with Student Threat Assessment Team for the purpose of preparing a written summary of findings and recommendations and assisting with action steps and follow-up.
  5. Assists schools with threat management, safety planning, intervention, and resource development.
  6. Provides threat assessment and management process information for the purpose of educating staff, parents, students, and community members.
  7. Facilitates cross-school district and multi-agency communication with key staff groups.
  8. Reviews the Threat Assessment Program annually for the purpose of analyzing effective utilization of existing resources and recommends changes for the purpose of ensuring effective outcomes.
  9. Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing references and conveying information.
  10. Develops positive relationships with school district staff members, safety personnel, intervention specialists, community members, etc., for the purpose of gathering and conveying information.
  11. Collaborates and assists the SDE's team to implement state law and guidance, and improve the state STA model.
  12. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective team.
  13. Builds partnerships and identifies and applies for grants for the purpose of sustaining program funding.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a twelve-month contract (242 days). Salary is based on board approved salary schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of Professional Personnel.
