Manage and develop system retail pharmacy operations for the strategic growth of retail pharmacy services for the healthcare system.

**Summary:**

The **System Director of Retail Pharmacy** leads strategic direction and provides oversight of AMITA Health/Ascension IL retail pharmacy operations and customer services to ensure efficient and comprehensive retail pharmacy care. The System Director of Retail Pharmacy will establish the vision for retail pharmacy operations and services to sustain excellence in safe medication use and customer service including regulatory compliance, fiscal performance, pharmaceutical purchasing, inventory management, strategic planning, budget planning, program growth and development, continuous improvement activities, key performance indicators, benchmarks and dashboards for operational oversight, and wholesaler and distributor management. The System Director of Retail Pharmacy ensures that system retail pharmacies operate in an efficient manner, adhering to Ascension Rx national policies, procedures, and programs that maximize the potential sales, prescription growth, margin and profitability while growing customer service programs and providing excellent customer service. The System Director of Retail Pharmacy develops standards for core retail pharmacy operation practices, regulatory compliance, drug diversion management, financial planning, operational efficiency, change management, succession planning, and managing labor and associate engagement.

**Responsibilities:**

+ Provides strategic direction and overall management of retail pharmacy operations for system-wide retail pharmacies while ensuring high levels of customer experience, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and innovative customer service programs.

+ Supervise Retail Pharmacy Managers to operate an efficient pharmacy and execute corporate business plans/objectives to achieve sales, prescription growth, margin and profitability and hold entire team accountable.

+ Ensure all the store pharmacy team executes on company initiatives and actively building profitable sales and prescription growth through retail pharmacy program growth including, but not limited to, Meds to Beds programs, Immunizations, MTM (Medication Therapy Management), etc.

+ Conduct frequent store visits to engage with the store teams and ensure stores comply with DEA controls, overall company standards of operation in the pharmacy, and all aspects of regulatory compliance.

+ Plans and develops system-wide retail budgets including sales, prescription growth, margin, labor and expenses and overall P&L results monthly to ensure operating income and EBITDA are achieved.

+ Provide leadership and development for associates by developing/communicating career opportunities, providing regular performance feedback, and scheduling any and all required training.

+ Use key performance indicators to monitor and improve customer satisfaction, quality assurance, and workflow standards in the retail pharmacy.

+ Execute workflow management systems in the pharmacy to ensure that labor is planned for customer service and completing operating activities while achieving labor budget.

+ Developing standardized procedures for core retail pharmacy operations and holding store manager accountable for compliance and training of associates on these procedures.

+ Participate in developing succession plans for all key pharmacy positions.

+ Provide guidance and oversight for recruitment, selection, hiring, placement of pharmacist; works to standardize the overall training and development of the store pharmacy team.

+ Provides oversight to Retail Pharmacy Managers to monitor and maintain proper compliance with all federal/state regulations including DEA, HIPAA, CIA, etc, and resolve any issues with noncompliance implementation or training required to bring store/individual into compliance.

+ Ensure customer service programs are properly implemented and adhered to in order to guarantee a high level of customer satisfaction and loyalty. Coach and train Retail Pharmacy Managers and Staff Pharmacists to deliver positive patient outcomes and exceed adherence goals.

+ Execute all corporate marketing, merchandise, and operations programs to drive sales, prescription growth, and profits in all stores within the system.

+ Meet with Retail Pharmacy Managers to address ongoing operations and drive accountability with pharmacy for profitability.

+ Provides direction and urgency to execute on company objectives and programs; holds Retail Pharmacy Managers accountable for implementation and overall performance.

+ Provides retail pharmacy services leadership across the enterprise and is responsible for recruiting, retaining, developing, and evaluating performance for all direct reports. Places retail pharmacy staff engagement as a priority.

+ Conduct annual and ongoing performance appraisals for Pharmacy Managers and Pharmacists.

+ Works with system leadership to optimize pharmacy discharge Meds to Beds services, 340B programs and patient assistance programs. Works with key system leadership to ensure pharmacy staff awareness and knowledge of programs.

+ Review, update, coordinate and formulate policies and procedures regarding retail pharmacy operations. Develop and update system policies related to retail pharmacy services and serves as a resource on retail pharmacy-related matters to other individuals as needed.

+ Effectively communicate the retail pharmacy operations throughout the organization to ensure retail pharmacy services information is shared with key stakeholders.

+ Acts as a subject matter expert to others internal and external customers to the organization.

+ Provides administrative support and mentorship to system-wide retail pharmacy leadership, providing opportunities for growth, and implements appropriate succession management.

+ Serves on various committees as requested and epresents retail pharmacy services in planning, communication, and decision-making discussions.

**What You Will Do**

Direct pharmacy operations to ensure alignment with the mission, values and objectives of the department and organization.

Direct the development and implementation of practices, policies and procedures in all functional areas of the department.

Accountable for department staffing and capacity planning.

Oversee the development, monitoring of and compliance with departmental budget(s).

Utilize broad knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory and administrative requirements to direct departmental operations and ensure accountability for the department's compliance.

Develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with all site leadership, specialties, departments including other specialty managers, associates and related vendors.

Implement specialty quality initiatives in the areas of patient safety, the Joint Commission, specialty accreditation, and performance improvement.

Participate in the development and administration of both long-term and annual capital plans which include facilities, systems and equipment.

Implement and monitor compliance with revenue integrity processes.

**What You Will Need**

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

* Pharmacist credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date and in good standing required.

Education:

* Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or Doctorate of Pharmacy required.

* Master's degree preferred.

Work Experience:

* 5 years of experience required.

* 10 years of experience preferred.
