Where You Will Work

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Accountant 2 to support the Controller Division. In this role, you will have the ability to provide support and become a member of the Controller Property Accounting and Accounts Receivable (CNTL-PA-AR) Group.

The selected candidate will report to the Accounts Receivable Team Leader and will provide support to the mission of the group by assisting with the Other Federal Agency (OFA) and Intergovernmental Personnel Agreement (IPA) work performed with other Federal agencies. Oversight of this work includes maintaining, billing, and collecting payments from other Federal agencies, resolving issues quickly and efficiently, and collaborating with other teams

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Accounting Experience
Experience with the Accounts Receivable function including maintaining, billing, and collecting payments from customers who owe money for goods and services provided. Working knowledge of governmental financial accounting, accounting/financial concepts, and principles to include Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and proper application of internal controls for accounting operation. Demonstrated understanding of accounting and finance functions. Experience working in a complex organization with diverse operations.

Problem Solving
Knowledge and experience solving problems, researching, gathering, analyzing data, and summarizing results for decision making. Experience resolving problems and issues both independently and as a team member. Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements while supporting the organization's strategic objectives.

Communication/Teamwork
Demonstrated record of effective teamwork coupled with excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and customers. Ability to remain professional while handling difficult situations with customers.

Technology
Demonstrated proficient use of computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).

Organizational Skills
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to independently establish priorities, manage projects, and execute complex business and financial assignments.

Education
Position requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field and 5 years' experience; or, the equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience directly related to the occupation. MBA is preferred.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working in the General Ledger to include journal uploads and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Working knowledge of LANL financial data and reports
  • Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university
Work Location:

The work location for this position is telework and is located in Los Alamos. Telework is defined as working from offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
