Project Accountant

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Prepare cost analyses by interpreting projects' financial data and information.
Report any financial risks and budgetary discrepancies to management for review.
Analyze project expenses and budget-to-actual reports with the construction project managers to proactively identify potential cost overruns.
Maintain the accuracy of project information in accounting software and update when changes occur.
Assist with the month-end close process ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. Record general ledger and job cost journal entries as needed.
Assists with the assembly of information for internal and external financial reporting requirements.
Perform clerical and data entry support to meet contractual requirements for operational and basic accounting.
Maintain accurate project-related records, including contracts and change orders.
Compile and produce monthly project updates.
Provide project teams with ad hoc reports and analysis as the need arises.
Provide input to senior management regarding project status.
Respond to subcontractor/vendor questions and concerns in a timely, professional manner.
Process and distribute payments to subcontractors for an assigned project once project funds have been received and releases have been verified.
Coordinate project closeouts with project managers and coordinators.
Communicate clearly and timely across the company; takes action to request information necessary to meet customer expectations and internal deadlines.
Maintain healthy, professional relationships, both internally and externally
PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS:
Education
High School Diploma, Accounting degree preferred.
Experience
2 years accounting experience, preferably in the construction industry
Computer Skills
Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email. Aptitude to learn in-house systems. Keyboarding skills sufficient to complete daily tasks in a timely manner. 10-key, by touch desired
Math
Strong mathematical skills to produce accurate calculations for payroll.
Reading
Good reading skills required.
License
Other
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Detail oriented and ability to observe confidentiality with sensitive information.
Able to work flexible hours, as required.
