Role/Job Summary: The Business Continuity Planner will be performing the major functions listed below. The position may require additional duties/responsibilities that may not be outlined below, and specific functions are subject to change.

  • This position is for a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Planner. The role entails developing a disaster recovery for multiple systems of which some are integrated with other systems and a business continuity plan that covers all aspects of standard business continuity plans.
  • The individual will work with executives, management, and subject matter experts across the Client's cross-functional teams and departments.
  • You will Develop, maintain, or implement business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and solutions, including risk assessments, business impact analyses, strategy selection, and documentation of business continuity and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Plan, conduct, and debrief regular mock-disaster exercises to test the adequacy of existing plans and strategies, updating procedures and plans regularly.
  • Act as a coordinator for continuity efforts after a disruption event.
  • This position encompasses highly technical and supervisory responsibilities in BCP activities, and the successful candidate will work with business and IT organizations to develop and refine their business continuity strategies. Including but not limited to providing expert advice, assessing risks, and providing solutions to ensure the organization is prepared for unexpected disruptions.
  • Develop emergency management plans for recovery decision-making and communications, continuity of critical departmental processes, or temporary shut-down of noncritical departments to ensure continuity of operation and governance. Develop disaster recovery plans for physical locations with critical assets, such as data centers.
  • Test-documented disaster recovery strategies and plans

Required Experience/Skillset for this Role

  • Develop disaster recovery plans for physical locations with critical assets such as data centers.
  • Develop contingency plans to deal with organizational emergencies.
  • Test documented disaster recovery strategies and plans.
  • Analyze the impact on, and risk to, essential business functions or information systems to identify acceptable recovery periods and resource requirements.
  • Assess risks to business operations.
  • Develop emergency management plans for recovery decision-making and communications, continuity of critical departmental processes, or temporary shut-down of non-critical departments to ensure continuity of operation and governance.
  • Develop contingency plans to deal with organizational emergencies.
  • Review existing disaster recovery, crisis management, or business continuity plans.
  • Establish, maintain, or test call trees to ensure appropriate communication during a disaster.
  • Conduct or oversee contingency plan integration and operation.
  • Write reports to summarize testing activities, including descriptions of goals, planning, scheduling, execution, results, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Create business continuity and disaster recovery budgets.
  • Attend professional meetings, read literature, and participate in training or other educational offerings to keep abreast of new developments and technologies related to disaster recovery and business continuity.

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) (Preferred)
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) (Preferred)
  • Certified Disaster Recovery Engineer (CDRE) (Preferred)
  • Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plans: Min 5+ years (Required)
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans across multiple industries
  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, business impact analyses, and continuity exercises.
  • BA or BS, A degree in a relevant field such as Business Continuity Management, Disaster Recovery, Information Technology, or Risk Management.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent knowledge of IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, databases, and cloud services.
  • Excellent understanding of data backup and recovery technologies.
  • Proficiency in risk management software and tools.
  • Situational awareness, abstract thinking, adaptability, and risk management
  • Performing and participating in Business Impact Analyses and Risk Assessments, facilitating mock exercises, as well as participating in IT recovery exercises are great ways to increase experience with business continuity processes.
  • The ability to create or carry out existing business continuity plans, IT technical recovery plans, business continuity policies, and crisis management plans
  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Skill in creating clear and comprehensive documentation for BCDR plans and procedures.
  • Capability to deliver training and awareness programs to ensure staff readiness.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess potential risks and vulnerabilities within the organization.
  • Capacity to evaluate and prioritize critical business functions and resources.
  • Capability to develop strategies for minimizing disruption and maintaining continuity during a disaster.
