Job Title: Restaurant General Manager

Location: Pier Restaurant - Harbor Springs, Michigan

Reports To: Director of F&B

Job Overview:

The Restaurant General Manager (RGM) is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of upscale dining, full-service restaurant. This role involves managing staff, ensuring high standards of customer service, maintaining operational efficiency, and driving sales growth. The RGM is accountable for creating an exceptional dining experience, driving team member engagement, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, and achieving financial targets.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Staff Management:

  • Recruit, train, and supervise restaurant staff, including servers, bartenders, cooks, and kitchen staff.
  • Develop staff schedules, verify and submit accurate payroll data, and manage employee performance.
  • Foster a positive work environment and promote teamwork through an active team member engagement plan.
  • Conduct regular meetings with staff to address concerns and provide updates.
  • Be a presence in the community, promoting the restaurant as a community partner
2. Customer Service:
  • Ensure high standards of customer service and satisfaction
  • Address and resolve customer complaints and feedback promptly
  • Monitor and evaluate service quality and make improvements as needed
  • Touch tables and greet patrons
3. Operational Efficiency:
  • Oversee daily restaurant operations, including opening and closing procedures
  • Manage inventory, order supplies, and control food and beverage costs
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and sanitation regulations
  • Implement and maintain operational policies and procedures
  • Caretake property and equipment; schedule maintenance as needed
  • Develop SOP's for operational excellence
4. Financial Management:
  • Develop and manage the restaurant's budget and financial performance
  • Monitor sales, expenses, and profitability
  • Analyze financial reports and implement strategies to improve financial outcomes
5. Marketing and Sales:
  • Develop and execute marketing strategies to attract and retain customers
  • Monitor and assess competition and industry trends
  • Plan and implement promotions and special events
  • Work directly with Sales and Marketing team to drive and execute marketing plans
6. Compliance and Standards:
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations
  • Maintain quality standards for food, service, and cleanliness
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to ensure standards are met
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a Restaurant Manager or in a similar leadership role within the food and beverage industry
  • Strong understanding of restaurant management systems and procedures
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and make decisions under pressure
  • Proficient in financial management and budgeting
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and health standards
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in hospitality management, Business Administration, or related field preferred
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 30 pounds
  • Capability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle high-stress situations
