Estimator will be 100% accountable and responsible for building accurate cost estimates for Construction Management and General Contracting jobs in the Sentry PM division.
Build relationships with subcontractors and suppliers
Distribute plans and specs to bidders list
Follow up by phone/text/email with preferred vendors
Estimate QC/QA
Prepare Bid Packages
Utilize and refine existing estimating processes and tools
Job Description
Estimating is a critical process within our PM(Construction) team at Sentry. Our customers are Salesman and Project Managers. We want to provide Unrivaled Service to our customers by owning and dominating the above accountabilities and being fast and accurate. Our team will simplify and systemize the estimating process to be efficient, accurate and profitable.
The relentless obsession of the Estimator is to efficiently build accurate and thorough cost estimates.
Coordinate Estimates- Gather documentation from RFQ or invitation to bid and understand the scope of work along with any special requirements the project may have (timing, labor, bonding, self-perform, etc.). Determine the best way to complete estimates in the most efficient way possible. Assemble a complete and thorough cost estimate utilizing our vendors, Sentry Project Managers/Superintendents, historical data and other available resources. Compile data into the estimating portal on the company platform. Utilize the estimating template and ensure it is clear what all costs are and what markups are used.
Estimate QC- Facilitate a QC of all estimates so that the Takeoff and Data is reviewed and approved by the review team to ensure accuracy and completeness of the bid. Take-offs must be reviewed by at least one person other than the person that assembled the BOM. (The project managers and the superintendents that are accountable for getting the work done in the field may be a great resource for QC)
Prepare Bid Package- Build the estimate into a simple and complete form for the Sales and Marketing team to deliver to the owner. This would include all Bonding, Licensing, Documentation and Special Requirements from the owner to submit the bid.
Project Handoff(Data)-Do a complete handoff from Estimating to the people doing the work before the startup of a won job to ensure the scope of what was estimated is properly communicated. During and after the work is completed help PM's review job data and compare to estimates to help with job profitability and future estimating accuracy.
Continuous Improvement - Relentlessly pursue excellence by working to continuously refine estimating processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, profitability and execution in the field.
