DAR

is responsible for leading the university’s alumni and fundraising efforts and seeks to promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the university community, including alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations, patients, and other friends. Our goal is to advance GWs mission of excellence in education, research, scholarship, and patient care.

The Assistant Director, Leadership Annual Giving is a key member of the Health and Medicine Development Team, which represents the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences, Public Health, and Nursing. With a focus on increasing alumni participation rates, the team employs direct marketing best practices, innovative digital and personal outreach strategies, and front-line fundraising efforts to build a base of support for the university. This position is an integral component of achieving aspirational fundraising goals.

The Assistant Director, Leadership Annual Giving should be an energetic individual who easily connects with others and possesses strong interpersonal skills. A strategic thinker, analytical, with project management skills, who works well as a part of a team. Discretion and the ability to interact with high-level donors and maintain a level of confidentiality is essential, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills.

Reporting to the Senior Associate Director, Constituent Giving, the assistant director is responsible for qualifying and personally soliciting gifts at the Luther Rice Society ( LRS ) level of $1,000 up to $49,999 through personal outreach, and some domestic travel with an average of 15 visits a month. The assistant director will collaboratively plan and execute key digital-driven fundraising efforts such as Giving Day, and other micro-campaigns to achieve donor growth goals.

Responsibilities include: Qualifies or attempts to qualify 500 prospects annually. Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards gifts in an assigned portfolio of approximately 150+ prospects, consisting of alumni, friends, and patients both locally and nationally for leadership annual gifts. Completes 150+ face-to-face, or virtual visits each year with an emphasis on qualifying prospects and soliciting leadership annual gifts ($1,000+). By assessing capacity and inclination to give, identify, qualify, and transfer 5+ major gift prospects per year to major gift officers. In coordination with the Executive Director of Annual Giving as well as development staff across the division and university support the development and implementation of a comprehensive constituent engagement and annual giving strategy. Assist with the implementation, and ongoing management of specialized campaigns including Giving Day, student campaigns, reunions, and special stewardship projects. Supports Annual Giving special projects, including writing and executing outreach campaigns, renewing annual donors, and staffing events. Maintains working knowledge of the major areas for annual support, including schools, units, student aid, clinical areas, and research. Provides necessary documentation and extensive follow-up for donors and internal partners as needed. Through phone and email communication to cultivate donor relationships with the University, accurately record data and outcomes in the appropriate systems. Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
