I. JOB OVERVIEW

Job Description Summary:

The Division of Development and Alumni Relations ( DAR ) is seeking a Director of Constituent Engagement and Annual Fund at the George Washington University. This position will support the School of Engineering and Applied Science (referred to as GW Engineering) and will report to the school-based Assistant Vice President for Development and Constituent Engagement.

The Director of Constituent Engagement and Annual Fund for GW Engineering will ensure fundraising initiatives linked to current-use support are successful by building a pipeline of new annual fund donors and creating innovative programs for retaining support. S/he will drive engagement strategies and stewardship activities for alumni, community stakeholders, and GWU families while working with volunteer leadership and faculty.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, a donor-centric mindset, and a willingness to learn and use a variety of technology. This position is a hybrid work schedule with a set schedule of days in-person and days working from home each week.

Duties:
Fundraising and Volunteer Management

  • Oversee annual fund fundraising for GW Engineering.
  • Ensure the schools National Advisory Board strategies, committees, and meetings are on track and associated scope of work is completed.
  • Design and coordinate the GW Engineerings annual alumni and family weekend activities, reunion programming, and alumni recognition activities.
  • Manage an assigned pool of prospects comprised of volunteers and top annual fund donors.
  • In concert with the AVP , create and implement a three-year plan for GW Engineering alumni outreach involving innovative programming to new populations of stakeholders.
  • Manage alumni cohort model involving promoting and expanding affinity groups aligned with Trustworthy AI, Energy Innovation, Gender Equity in Engineering, and Cybersecurity.
  • Build and strengthen school-based stewardship activities and direct efforts of staff associated with DAR collaborations and partners.
  • Oversee the schools family program activities including a calendar of customized events, the family leadership circle, and annual town hall meeting.
  • Assist AVP with corporate engagement campus visits.

Leadership
  • Supervise Associate Director of Constituent Engagement and Annual Fund.
  • Partner with Director of Development and Associate Director of Development to ensure national Dean Salon Events are successful.
  • Occupy senior liaison roles involving partnerships with the universitys alumni relations and annual fund staff plus oversee DAR partnerships with the GW Engineerings Director for Career Services, Director of Strategic Initiatives, and Director of Graduate Recruitment and Student Advising.
  • Oversee ongoing stewardship activities linked to endowed scholarships and professorships.
  • Participate in alumni and donor engagement activities on occasional weekends and evenings;
  • Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment which encourages teamwork and personal growth.
  • Oversee planning, review of analytics, and the budget related to constituent engagement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 6 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Masters degree in a relevant area of study plus 4 years of relevant experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Knowledge of events planning and management for small and large groups.
  • Adept at working effectively with diverse constituent groups and senior institutional staff.
  • Strong public speaking/verbal communication skills, with the ability to make a compelling case for support.
  • Aptitude for database management, producing reports, and tracking data.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of basic budget management for programs and events.
  • Ability to travel for business and work outside of the traditional business day.
