Overview:

The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of all Alterman's databases. This role includes planning, development, and troubleshooting, as well as working closely with the IT Service Desk and Business Intelligence and Analytics teams. The DBA ensures data consistency, supports data integration and transformation processes, and provides secure, high-performing access to data systems. The role also involves setting up and managing database integrations, ensuring seamless data flow across different systems.

Essential Functions:

1. 90%
  • Manages and maintains database systems, ensuring high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Designs the structure of databases and schemas, monitors database performance, and implements changes to optimize performance.
  • Collaborates with the IT Service Desk team to resolve database-related issues and provide support.
  • Works with Business Intelligence and Analytics teams to develop data models, support reporting needs, and optimize data flows.
  • Implements, oversees, and manages data integration processes, ensuring accurate and efficient data exchange between systems.
  • Uses ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from various sources into Snowflake.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains database policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
  • Identifies, evaluates, and recommends hardware or software technologies to achieve desired database performance.
  • May manage user access and security role development.
  • May enter and revise data dictionary definitions.
  • May merge older databases with current databases.
2. Performs other duties as assigned by management. 10%

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in database administration required.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Oracle Certified Professional preferred.
Skills/Abilitites:
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, or other related software.
  • Proficient in database integration tools and techniques.
  • Experience with database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, etc.
  • Experience in data integration and ETL processes is highly desirable.
  • Experience with data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL.
  • Familiarity with database management tools and software.
  • Experience with Snowflake.
  • Experience with on-premises and cloud databases.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Able to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Work Environment:

Office environment with occasional on-call work for system emergencies.

Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
