Project Open Hand is a nonprofit organization that provides meals with love to critically ill neighbors and older adults with complex health conditions. Our food is like medicine, helping clients recover from illness, get stronger, and lead healthier lives. Every day, we prepare 2,500 nutritious meals and provide 200 bags of healthy groceries to help sustain our clients as they battle serious illnesses, isolation, or the health challenges of aging. We serve San Francisco, Oakland, and Contra Costa counties, engaging more than 125 volunteers daily to nourish our community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Project Open Hand is seeking a fundraising professional who loves data and would like to grow their career within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The person in this position must be an organized, detail- and deadline-oriented individual to manage Salesforce, the donor management system used by the Development Department to track contributions, donors, prospects, and volunteer information. We’re looking for someone who enjoys working with donor data and building productive relationships with colleagues, implementing new and innovative solutions to complex problems, and is self-directed, collaborative and mission driven.

Reporting to the Director, Development Operations, the Development Database Administrator plays a key role in supporting fundraising staffs’ needs around direct mail and online outreach, major gifts, events, and institutional giving. This position will provide support for the Development Department by, creating reports, performing complex data analysis, making sure the database effectively captures donor, prospect and campaign information and generates accurate financial and reconciliation reports. This position will also work with our Volunteer Services Department and our IT (Information Technology) Department to determine and implement database enhancements. Overall, the Database Administrator will play a key role in advancing the organization towards a data-driven approach to solving problems, and will proactively provide consultation to department staff in all fundraising aspects.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ work experience managing donor management databases and reports
  • Proficiency in database administration, prospect and constituent management, data imports and exports, developing reporting systems and analytical reports (Salesforce experience preferred)
  • Strong analytical and process-modeling skills and the ability to apply problem-solving techniques to complex scenarios
  • Excellent organizational, and very strong written and verbal communications skills
  • High proficiency in, and knowledge of, fundraising and donor moves management processes
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the overall quality and integrity of the Salesforce database, including working with staff to troubleshoot problems with the database and other platform integrations and staying current with system updates
  • Provide highly segmented data output for all mail and online campaigns, including special events and other departmental needs
  • Create and produce reports for Development staff, the Finance Department and the organization as needed
  • Assist in assessing and improving systems for data entry of gift records so that the processing, tracking, reporting and acknowledgment of gifts are performed in an accurate and timely fashion. Ensure that the data derived from these activities is maintained in accurate and up-to-date status, and can be easily accessed. This includes helping with data entry and gift processing when needed.
  • Analyze database capabilities as they relate to departmental needs and incorporate enhancements into department procedures
  • Develop written training materials and provide ongoing training and support for department staff in the donor database
  • Perform comprehensive and detailed analysis of Development campaigns to effectively identify trends and opportunities and make recommendations to drive strategy and shape development processes
  • Leverage internal and external data sources to provide insights that will drive organization actions
  • Interface with consultants and vendors to ensure accurate data processing in support of department activities
  • Work with IT to continue to revise and develop protocols to safeguard data compliance with system upgrades and to ensure data security
  • Work with Volunteer Services to ensure accurate input of Volunteer data and provide ongoing training to Volunteer Services team
