Job Description
The Accounting Manager will oversee all aspects of the firm's accounting function, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, payroll, and general accounting. The position requires the ability to be hands-on and transactional as well as manage the day-to-day of the accounting team. This position offers an opportunity to play a key role in the firm's financial management and strategic planning initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, general ledger processing and payroll.
Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
Function as a system administrator for the Firm’s financial systems (Aderant, Chrome River).
Supervise and mentor accounting staff (9), providing guidance and support to foster professional development and performance excellence.
Support the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and supporting schedules.
Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and legal regulations relevant to the legal industry and ensure firm compliance.
Assess and advise on the handling of complex/unusual accounting and billing transactions.
Participate in the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
Liaise with Firm Auditors in support of audits, profit sharing funding and tax compliance activities.
Supports and assists Firm leadership where needed.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA certification preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP; familiarity with legal accounting principles is a plus.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Aderant, Chrome River, 3E) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels of the organization.
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive financial information.
Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally
