The EHS Manager at our New Johnsonville, TN site is responsible for managing all safety, industrial hygiene and environmental activities at manufacturing site to insure the safety of all employees, contractors and environment on the site. Responsible for the compliance with internal and external EHS requirements and continuous improvement in reduction of accident and environmental risks.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and effectiveness of site EHS programs and policies.
  • Supports the creation of a strong safety culture that engages employees throughout the organization in improving safety performance.
  • Plans and implements safety and environmental policies and procedures to maintain compliance with local, site and federal governmental regulatory agencies and performs frequent, informal plant audits to insure site's continuing compliance with all local, state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Provides direction and leadership to site in area of EHS and to EHS staff.
  • Responsible for ISO 14000 management system coordination including documentation, internal audits, management review, environmental objectives setting and tracking, training, and coordination of third party certification audits.
  • Coordinates site safety and environmental training sessions for new and current employees to enhance awareness of environmental issues and fulfill compliance obligations.
  • Maintains compliance with TSCA, DOT/Hazardous materials transportation, FDA compliance of products, customer requests regarding regulations and coordinates response to EHS legal issues with counsel and corporate legal department.
  • Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to insure measures have been implemented
  • Leads the investigation of accidents and injuries and implements corrective actions.
  • Manages environmental exposure programs including chemical, noise, respiratory, and air.
  • Completes all required local, state and federal environmental reports, samples surveys, and permit modifications in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Responsible for all necessary industrial hygiene monitoring, sampling and reporting for air permitting compliance, hazardous/solid waste disposal, storm water, RCRA, SARA, and other EHS permits.
  • Provides support for site Emergency Brigade through planning of training, drills, or development of procedures and the emergency response plan.
  • Coordinates the site VPP program.
  • Manages strong contractor safety program to ensure contractors have related programs in place and which align with Ferro business requirements.
  • Works with key site personnel and site Safety Committees to develop and monitor goals/objectives.
  • Other special assignments or projects relating to EHS.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred in engineering or chemistry with minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR minimum of 10 years of experience in a management role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental, safety and health regulations and process safety management and experience working with state agencies on compliance activities.
  • Computer proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills;
  • Leads by example.
  • Physical requirements and working conditions mainly in an office environment but position will require presences in site manufacturing areas.
  • This position shall maintain compliance with all Federal, State and Local Environmental, Health & Safety Regulations, Ferro Safety Standards as well as EHS rules/requirements of the site at all times.
