Assistant Chief Plant Operator

Minimum Qualifications
High School graduate with passing grades in math, biology, and chemistry, with management experience helpful; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough understanding of Wastewater Treatment principals and equipment. Must have demonstrated ability to supervise the maintenance of a conventional Wastewater Treatment facility. Class 1 Wastewater Works Operator License. Current valid driver's license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview. Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.This position is considered Safety Sensitive and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Duties
The position is responsible for the maintenance program at the facility. This includes, staff supervision, contract coordination, and maintenance material supply for an industrial facility. The position ensures that process systems and equipment can produce effluent quality that follows VPDES permit requirements. The employee implements, and directs maintenance repairs on all plant equipment, to include adjustments, or replacement of necessary parts. Maintaining an established preventive maintenance procedures and inventory program is critical to long term maintenance success. Additional duties include provide direction on maintenance, operations and biosolids programs to staff; keeps records of preventive maintenance performed, to include cost of parts and labor. The position records equipment that requires intensive maintenance and makes recommendations for capital replacement of equipment or systems. The position is also responsible for safety training, procedures, SOPs for activities such as confined space training, hazardous material handling, and other necessary industrial maintenance safety training. Perform other work as required.
