Job Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of our company. You will work closely with our finance team to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and provide valuable insights to senior management.

This role is crucial in helping our organization make informed business decisions, drive responsible stewardship of resources, and help ensure our operations are responsive to grantor and donor intent. This position oversees the general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable staff, while supporting the Finance Director in developing processes and training materials for use agency-wide.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Manage and oversee the month and year-end close processes and ensuring the completeness and accuracy of the financials. Develop monthly and year-end work plans to include routine deadlines, seasonal procedures and special projects. Audit and review of accounting and payroll data. Ensure compliance with proper accounting methods, policies, and principles. Hiring, training, and motivating accounting staff members while supervising and delegating department tasks. Provide technical assistance to agency staff through interpretation of applicable rules, regulations, and policies that relate to the routine business of the agency. Monitoring and analyzing financial accounting data.

Creating financial reports based on data analysis. Oversee the reconciliation of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, In-Kind donations, and accrued payroll liabilities. Develop a thorough understanding of agency grants and contracts including knowledge of budgets and expense allowability. Review bi-weekly payroll, leave liability, salary accruals, and quarterly taxes. Ensuring the correct structure and integrity of HR and benefit data in accounting system. Support payroll specialist by responding to technical compensation, and benefit administration questions. Periodically review accounting systems and processes for accuracy and efficiency and recommend improvements. Confirm responses to grantor and donor requests for verification of expenditures. Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge,

Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of best practices in accounting operations Knowledge of grant and contract requirements (Federal, State, Local, Private). Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and ability to apply these principles. Proficient in policy creation, including creating team buy-in. Monitoring and analyzing complex financial accounting data Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to manage multiple competing deadlines with tight deadlines. Demonstrated skills in interacting successfully with all levels of staff. Collecting, evaluating, and interpreting narrative and statistical data. Understanding, interpreting and applying laws and regulations including labor laws and payroll taxes/benefits.

Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written records Ability to calculate complex expense allocations to ensure appropriate distribution of expenses across grants. Ability to monitor work to ensure quality, accuracy, and thoroughness.

Advanced computer skills (MS Office, accounting software, and databases).

Strong knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Ability to lead and supervise. Ability to communicate clearly in a positive and mentoring manner to staff, assisting them in the application of Share’s policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires the ability to perform the job as outlined. Training and experience for this position are typically equivalent to a bachelor's degree and two (2) to four (4) years of experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. (Equivalency 4-6 years of qualifying training and/or experience). 2 years of experience working with Federal/State/Local contracts. Strong computer literacy including experience working in cloud software, accounting software, and demonstrates strong Excel skills. 3 years experience reviewing expenses and accounting entries for compliance with GAAP standard. Proven working experience as an Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor, or Finance Manager, or similar. Experience and ability to work with diverse communities. Ability to operate basic functions of the computer and utilize Microsoft Office software. Exhibit the ability to work as a collaborative and productive part of a team.
