JOB DESCRIPTION: This individual will contribute to the execution of UTIMCO’s Operational Due Diligence (“ODD”) program, focusing on new and existing external investment managers across multiple asset classes, including hedge funds, domestic and international public equities, private equity, venture capital, real estate, and infrastructure. Broad responsibilities include: Collaborate on ODD reviews for new and existing external investments, which includes desktop reviews, calls, and/or onsite visits to interview senior management of the firm to determine whether their investment support functions are adequate and to provide suggested improvements to mitigate investment and/or reputational risk Review manager- and fund-specific documentation including due diligence questionnaires, offering documents, regulatory filings, audit reports, compliance documents, etc. Update, distribute, and evaluate responses from due diligence questionnaires sent to external managers and highlight significant risks/issues to the broader UTIMCO investment teams Provide candid feedback to UTIMCO investment team members and, ultimately, external managers, where appropriate, inclusive of proposed solutions to correct deficiencies identified during the ODD process as well as to recommend industry best practices Maintain ODD policies and procedures in line with industry best practices and develop future enhancements to UTIMCO’s ODD program, leveraging technology solutions where possible Preparation/review of written reports to succinctly detail a manager’s operational framework and to highlight potential risks Ownership of various scheduled projects and special ad hoc reporting requests, which are seen to completion PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field Minimum of 1 year of relevant or related experience, preferably with an asset manager (traditional or alternative) or investment consultant. In lieu of this, at least 2 years of experience in evaluating and/or auditing traditional/alternative investment products and managers (hedge funds, private equity, alternative mutual funds, and/or fund-of-funds) A strong interest in the investment industry and intellectual curiosity about the operational, accounting, compliance, and technology issues faced by asset managers Elevated attention to detail as well as strong verbal/written communications skills and presence to communicate effectively with senior levels of management both internally and externally A collegial team player possessing intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and thoughtfulness Constructive, “can do” attitude committed to consistently doing what is in the best interest of the organization Unquestioned honesty, integrity, and transparency Cultural fit is a must in a respectful, collegial, and open working environment Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint) Availability and willingness to travel CFA, MBA, CAIA, CPA, or FRM certifications
