We currently have an opening for a Sr. Accounting Manager based at our operating site in Houston, TX. This position is a supervisory role within the Accounting Department and will have oversight and accountability for all financial controls, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reporting for two operating sites in Houston, TX, and Yaphank, NY. This position reports to the Group Controller for Process Insights Industrial Markets.

The ideal candidate for this position will be someone with prior supervisory responsibilities, and has the aptitude, skills, and self-discipline to manage the accounting department with full responsibility for its work product. Ideally, this person will also have the desire over time to grow into a larger role within the company, with added responsibilities. As a seasoned Accountant, this person will be a self-starter, self-managed, capable of handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and has a strong acumen of accounting practices and financial controls. The Accounting Manager will also work closely with the Corporate Controller of Process Insights, as well as other finance peers within the portfolio of companies.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with the Group Controller and participate in strategic financial planning sessions, contributing insights that drive business decisions and operational strategies.
  • Manage and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Supervise and participate in all department tasks, oversee the recording, tracking, and reporting of financial information, and direct the work of other accounting department team members.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the financial stability and cash position of the business on an ongoing/daily basis.
  • Must have complete comprehension of the financial reporting and general ledger structure, in order to have awareness of any anomalies or changes.
  • Perform and supervise monthly financial close procedures, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, reviewing journal entries, account balance reconciliations and report preparation.
  • Manage and direct all month-end activities. Ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities/reporting.
  • Assist the Group Controller in the daily/weekly banking requirements.
  • Supports Group Controller in budget and forecasting activities.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations and research discrepancies.
  • Manage intercompany transactions, confirm sister company balances at month end.
  • Prepare monthly sales and use tax returns and required amendments and exception certificates.
  • Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining high level of accuracy.
  • Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Responds to inquiries from the Group Controller, Corporate Controller, and other managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Prepare detailed journal entries and account analyses.
  • Work with the Group Controller to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.
  • Work closely with Group Controller to analyze company and product family profitability (contribution margin, gross margin, EBITDA) and suggest areas for improvement.
  • Supervise, direct, and mentor AP and AR staff.
  • Support Group Controller with special projects and workflow process improvements
  • Assure appropriate use of Epicor's ERP system and improve processes to enhance efficiency. Be a change-agent in support of new ERP practices.
  • Maintain accurate dates in ERP system.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and development within the finance team, encouraging professional growth and adaptation to industry changes.
  • Apply equal amounts of skills and dedication to all other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifying Attributes and Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA or Master's in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance Concentration - preferred.
  • 3+ years in a senior accounting role or management of an accounting department required.
  • 5+ years prior experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
  • Must have proven analytical and problem-solving skills. Advanced mathematical and logical deduction skills are a must.
  • Advanced Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Proficient understanding of cost of goods sold (COGS) and how a transaction moves through the process.
  • Understands the importance of reconciliations.
  • Understand the difference between prepaid and accrual.
  • Superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong degree of familiarity working with ERP systems and/or accounting software programs (Great Plains, MYOB; Epicor ERP experience a plus).
  • Professional demeanor with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, team environment, under tight deadlines.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment preferred.
  • Must have ability to roll up their sleeves and have a "get it done" attitude.
  • Strong problem solving and time management skills; a results-oriented work ethic, and ability to work alone with limited direct supervision.
  • Ability to lead by example. High degree of integrity and conviction required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working within diverse, multicultural teams.

  • Willingness to assist with tasks, even when the work is out of the scope of responsibilities.
