Position Overview:
The primary focus of this role will be to serve as lead designer on transportation projects with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and local governments.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Design various types of roadway, sidewalk, multi-use-path, and safety projects, including urban and rural roadways, interstates, interchanges, traffic management, transportation planning, highway safety, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometric layout, MOT, Drainage and ADA compliance projects.
- Work with the design team comprised of Project Managers, Senior Engineers, EIT's and other technical staff to develop engineered solutions for various clients.
- Work on design for a variety of roadway projects including interchanges, intersection improvements, roadway widening/capacity improvements, ADA, and pedestrian safety upgrades.
- Utilize CAD design software such as ORD for design and plan production.
- Perform field visits for ongoing design projects.
- Assign design tasks to less experienced designers and QA/QC their work.
- Provide in-house coordination and expertise for public projects involving roadways.
- Interface with other departments within the region to ensure efficient and organized operations of the projects.
- Interact with Federal, State and Local agencies.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
- Active Kentucky PE is required and must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
- 6 + years' experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience in the roadway industry.
- Bentley training and/or experience with relevant engineering software preferred, and computer literate on Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work on projects independently.
- Preliminary and Final design experience with KYTC projects, specifications and guidelines preferred.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience using MicroStation, Inroads, OpenRoads preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with AASHTO Policy's and Guidelines.
- Experience with site development and / or municipal projects (a plus).
- Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic design (a plus).
- Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments.
