Job Description About the Role As Financial Accounting Manager, you will oversee the accounting, compliance, and internal reporting functions for The New York Times Shared Services Center. You will report to the Sr. Manager of Financial Accounting and Reporting. Responsibilities: You will provide direct management to staff and ensure accounting tasks, including month-end close and account reconciliations and the department’s decision support activities, are performed. You will review Company-wide Sales Tax returns and guide Sales Tax Accountants. You will set priorities and provide support to accounting staff. You will be a resource for department staff to help resolve issues. You will review and enforce corporate policies. You will monitor department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources. You will maintain a control environment over responsibilities and work with the Director of Corporate Compliance regarding SOX controls for responsibilities to include Project Costing, Asset Management, Lease Management, and General Ledger. You will develop new processes to improve the efficiency of the department. You will ensure the department maintains a high level of customer service and resolve all customer issues. You will be a primary liaison to both internal and external auditors. You will prepare schedules and documentation supporting internal and external audit requests. You will query, mine, analyze and report on large data sets. You will leverage data analytics tools to validate and support recorded transactions. You will monitor employee performance, provide constructive feedback to staff and coaches, and develop employees. You will provide support to the Sr. Manager of Financial Accounting and Reporting. You will manage special projects as assigned. Customers and Contacts: Financial management and accounting teams. Corporate Internal Audit team and external auditors. Basic Qualifications: 5+ years of professional accounting experience. 2+ years of experience in an accounting management role or team lead/project leadership position. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and CPA certification. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Workday Financials. Working knowledge of technical accounting pronouncements and standards (GAAP, FASB). Experience with Sarbanes Oxley (SOX). Experience with Sales Tax and VAT Review and Returns.
