Job Summary:

The Aftermarket Field Sales Engineer demonstrates a strong ability to understand needs and technical requirements from customers. In this job, you will play an essential role in the growth of the Aftermarket (AM) Sales team. The Aftermarket Field Sales Engineer is responsible for supporting customers and AM Field Sales in project managing large or technically complicated sales orders. These types of orders will be clearly identified and discussed with the Field Operations Manager and the AM Outside Salesperson assigned to the account.

The Aftermarket Field Sales Engineer will also be asked to visit customers to troubleshoot more complex systems and applications upon the request of the Aftermarket Outside Sales team. The Aftermarket Field Sales Engineer will also be asked to assist with information gathering for the Sales Application Engineers to prepare a proposal. Some systems may need a more technical view to properly quote the solution or it may need to be quoted in several different ways in certain applications as well.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with sales teams to understand customer requirements, to promote the sale of company products, and to provide sales support.
  • Diagnose problems with installed equipment.
  • Recommend improved materials or machinery to customers, documenting how such changes will lower costs or increase production.
  • Provide technical and non-technical support and services to clients or other staff members regarding the use, operation, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Provide technical sales support to AM Outside Sales team.
  • Perform technical review of specified job information as assigned by AM Outside Sales team.
  • Work with suppliers and internal team to determine and troubleshoot solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Manage projects and job meetings with sales staff and service technicians to coordinate and ensure a smooth completion.
  • Coordinate with AM Outside Sales team to make customer calls and participate in bid meetings and walk-through meetings as necessary.
  • Respond in a timely manner to various technical questions regarding products and system solutions to meet customer and sales team needs.
  • Participate in meetings or direct communication with customers to assist in resolution of problems or complaints.
  • Prepares and distributes literature, technical data and promotional material when needed.
  • Maintains a teamwork philosophy to facilitate problem solving and provide good customer service.
  • Advises and consults with upper management, customers and industry representatives concerning business opportunities and potential problems that may impact business.
  • Assist in project management of orders.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
  • Advanced schooling in an area related to the industry
  • 5 - 10 years' experience in an application sales engineering role or comparable experience in a technical role
Specific Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to independently and without supervision, manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently and without supervision, meet deadlines while coordinating efforts and information from co-workers, vendors and customers.
  • Experience working with customers and vendors.
  • Working knowledge of pumping systems.
  • Proper application knowledge of electric motors, variable frequency drives, control components and instrumentation.
  • Capability to multi-task with excellent organization skills.
  • Problem solving and decision making with minimal supervision.
  • Takes ownership of assignments and focuses on tasks and deadlines given.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and comment on technical specifications.
  • Strong, analytical and problem-solving abilities as well as strong written and oral communication skills along with strong computer skills and teamwork building skills.
  • Self-starter, high motivation level.
