This position is responsible for actively contributing to the independent collateral valuation support system for the credit and lending departments. These responsibilities include completing internal evaluations, selecting appraisers, ordering appraisals, reviewing, analyzing and approving appraisals with proper completion and documentation of the appraisal review forms for commercial, ag, and real estate collateral.

This position will include certain assigned responsibilities for one or more of the Focus Areas.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs various responsibilities for internal evaluation requirements for a property:
    • Selects and utilizes comparable information; evaluates income and expense information (for the subject property and comparable properties) and other necessary data to complete an evaluation of the subject property that results in a credible value opinion.
    • Maintains communication with lenders regarding issues identified during the evaluation process and determines if any conditions should be considered in the use of the appraisal in underwriting or closing of a loan.
  • Performs various responsibilities for required appraisals for a property:
    • Selects the appropriate appraisal firm based on specific characteristics of the assignment to ensure they are matched properly.
    • Orders appraisals using engagement letters while following appraisal department policies and operating procedures.
    • Manages ongoing appraisal processes and addresses any issues that arise.
    • Reviews and approves appraisal upon receipt.
    • Communicates with lenders on acceptance of appraisal and if any conditions should be considered in the use of the appraisal in underwriting or closing of the loan.
  • Updates and manages tracking system for all assigned internal evaluations and appraisal reviews.
  • Ensures independence in the appraisal and evaluation process, and reporting to the Manager, Appraisal Services any circumstances which may compromise the independence of the process.
  • Completes commercial, ag, and real estate validations.
  • Confirms data and calculations included in internal commercial, ag, and real estate valuations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Focus Areas

  • Strong working knowledge in commercial and residential real estate appraisal analysis and review and will serve as a primary point of contact for related valuation needs for the commercial, consumer, and mortgage banking teams. This will include acting as liaison between appraisers and the banking teams to maintain appraisal independence.
  • Assist the VP Appraisal Services manager in keeping the Appraisal Services work load up to date and current for successful and collaborative service delivery with the various business lines we service.
  • Develops and maintains subject matter expertise in appraisal analysis through continued education to maintain professional licensure. Must be knowledgeable on the agency guidelines to assist in making sure valuations meet requirements.
  • Assist in training an reviewing work performed by Appraisal Services team members as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of post high school education and related work experience.

  • A Certified General Appraiser License required.
  • A concentration in commercial appraisal and review; a minimum of three to five years of fee appraisal or review, or real estate broker experience working with appraisals, required.

Compensation:
Pay Range: $80K to $100K a year.

The starting pay range for this position is commensurate with experience. The compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
