S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Reliability & Test Engineering function. As a Design Engineer, you'll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. We are seeking a Design Engineer with the Reliability & Test Engineering team to lead and facilitate S&C's Design for Reliability processes for new product development and sustaining product engineering projects. A successful candidate will work with cross-functional project teams and will report to the Manager-Reliability & Test Engineering. The position is full-time, and all work takes place at our Chicago, IL campus. Key Responsibilities: Work with project team leadership to develop Design for Reliability (DfR) plans and set reliability goals. Set up, conduct, and troubleshoot reliability tests, including but not limited to Accelerated Step-Stress Tests, Accelerated Life Tests, and reliability endurance tests. Collect, evaluate, and report reliability test results. Understand and apply various statistical analysis methods appropriate to the product reliability space. Evaluate field data and generating new or adjusting existing test plans to recreate, or better understand, the root cause(s) of product malfunctions and recommending product design improvements. Work with S&C Electronics Technologists on printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) build for reliability tests. What you'll Need To Succeed: Job Requirements (To select this job at a minimum you must have the following): Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with a preference in computer science, power systems and/or power electronics. A minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in an engineering role working with electronics in cross functional teams in an R&D environment. Knowledge of Design for Reliability (DfR) concepts, tests, tools and methods. Must be able to read and comprehend PCBA circuit diagrams and be able to diagnose PCBA malfunctions. Ability to effectively use electronic test and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, logic analyzers and programmable power supplies. Ability to facilitate DfR process meetings with other engineers in the application and execution of DfR activities and tasks. Ability to apply and understand mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently toward timely completion of assigned tasks and desired goals. Possess strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting, discussing, and documenting technical information. Demonstrated ability to independently draw conclusions from technical information. Adaptable and flexible: open to innovative ideas and able to respond to the latest information, workload changes, and/or updated priorities as they present themselves. Creative problem solver and solution developer when presented with conflicting requirements, business demands and technical risks/issues. Preferred: Three years of applied engineering experience working with product development teams. Hands on experience with HBK Prenscia ReliaSoft is desired. Familiarity with environmental test chambers is a plus. Major Physical Demands: Standing: Occasional standing for work, Lifting: Occasional loading/unloading up to twenty-five lbm test samples in environmental chambers, Walking: Frequent walking throughout the campus facility, Carrying: Occasional carrying of light objects for short distances, Pushing: Occasional use of manual hand carts to move items, Pulling: Occasional use of manual pallet jack to move items, Bending: Occasional bending, Reaching: Occasional reaching, Handling: Occasional handling of parts or tools, Environment: Standard office / desktop workspace and test laboratory space, Travel: Occasional travel to S&C's Franklin, WI campus.
