Program Overview:

Henry Street's Healthy Seniors Select Meals on Wheels program delivers approximately 1,000 fresh and frozen meals every weekday to homebound Manhattan residents to help them stay healthy and independent in their own homes. This program is vitally important because many seniors have little to no access to nutritious meals. They are often too frail or have health complications that prevent them from preparing meals for themselves or from using Henry Street's Good Companions Senior Center where lunch and dinner are served on-site.

Job Summary:

Meal Deliveries for the Meals on Wheels program play a critical role in delivering prepared meals to home-bound, incapacitated, and isolated seniors within a specific geographic region in Manhattan. The Meal Deliverers encompass a warm and charismatic personality when engaging with the seniors and providing a wellness check.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma/GED preferred
  • Knowledge of Lower East Side and Midtown Manhattan Streets
  • Good communication skills
  • Must be able to carry bags between 15-30lbs
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs
  • Available to work on call with little notice
  • Available to work overtime without notice
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Interested in providing services to seniors
Responsibilities:
  • Deliver meals to homebound elderly seniors and conduct wellness checks
  • Report "no answers" and client emergencies immediately to the administrative office
  • Record deliveries and maintain route sheets, temperature logs, and taste test logs
  • Face to face interaction only with clients
  • Communicate concerns with delivery with supervisor or the Director
  • Adhere to all program policies and procedures
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary truck daily
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director and Assistant Director
  • Provide assistance with clerical assignments related to job
  • Maintain the inventory room (empty humidifier, organize inventory, and other related tasks)
  • Remain professional at all times
Essential Physical Job Functions:
  • Must be able to carry bags between 15 - 30
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs
