This role specifically supports Generac's Residential Home Standby business with a focus on delivering design innovations and process solutions that increase installation efficiency to reduce total cost of ownership for our customers.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline2 or more years of relevant work experiencePREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in new product design and development preferably within electromechanical design integration and packagingExperience with PCBA design, fabrication, and manufacturingHands on experience running tests on complex electronic components and/or systems including the use of oscilloscopes, power supplies, and other various electronic test equipment/metersExperience developing component and/or system level test plans, test procedures, and test reportsExperience in the design layout and packaging of electromechanical components and systemsExperience with harnessing and cabling designs and assembliesExperience with schematic capture tools (hardware position)Experience in power management systems (inverters, converters, DC BUS management, PID boost tuning)Knowledge of power supplies (inverters/ dc-dc converters) and power handlingExperience in microprocessor hardware interfacing techniques (e.g., IIC, SPIbus, EEprom, etc.)Experience with Windchill or other PDM release systemsEssential Duties:Designs, validates, and brings new products and solutions to marketProvide new product development in the Residential and/or Retail generator product area including Creating and maintaining schematics/layouts/BOMs, supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs), Interfacing with internal company personnel, provide technical support for assigned projectsDevelop and implement design modifications to support the launch of new product features and innovations to reduce total cost of customer ownershipSpecifies precise new product functional requirements; designs, tests and integrates moderately complex components to produce final designs; and evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and safetyCreate and maintain Statements of Requirements (SOR), schematics, and BOMsOversee prototype testing, troubleshooting, and validation, making necessary design adjustments to meet functional, performance, and safety requirementsPerform root cause analysis and develop solutions for issues identified during the development process, testing, manufacturing process, and/or fieldCreate, design, and develop test specifications for new systems and firmware/softwareDevelop Risk Assessments, FMEA/DFMEA's, and provide recommendations during Design ReviewsTroubleshoot designs to the component levelCollaborate with other engineers, internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers, and product specialists to optimize complex designsStay up to date with evolving industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to power electronics, electrical systems, energy generation and storage systemsUtilizes PCB and Schematic design tools to develop new hardware solutionsOther Duties as assigned and the following: Supporting product development plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs)Develops less experienced engineersOther duties as assignedKnowledge Skills and Abilities:Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracyDemonstrated written communication and presentation skillsAbility to translate technical information to all audiencesAble to solve moderate to complex engineering problemsGood decision-making skillsTechnical Skills to include 3D modeling (Creo or SolidWorks)MS Office, Smartsheet, AltiumPhysical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls.
