Through educational endeavors and student outreach, OFAS is a vital contributor to student success at UNT Dallas.
Position Overview
The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Financial Aid Counselor. This position will serve as team-lead for the scholarships and grants area. The incumbent will provide immediate and comprehensive services to customers relating to scholarships, grants, and the TASFA application. Additional general services related to federal, state, and institutional regulatory requirements, awarding financial aid, calculating need analysis, determining eligibility, performing detailed technical duties, and conducting financial aid presentations. The incumbent is the primary point-of-contact for the department with various on and off campus stakeholders regarding scholarship administration.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and two years of office administration experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong working knowledge of the academic policies and procedures of the University.
Considerable knowledge of the policies and procedures of a University related to Financial Aid and competitive scholarships.
Considerable knowledge of automated records information systems.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to assemble and organize data and to prepare reports.
Ability to analyze problems and determine appropriate solutions within a framework of given policy and procedure.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
Preferred Qualifications
2-3 years previous experience in financial aid at a public college or university; experience supervising\coordinating the work of others.

Job Duties:
Functions as the team-lead for the Scholarships & Grants area, insuring work assignments are assigned adequately to maintain expected processing time and prevent bottlenecks.
Answers and\or initiates correspondence to advise applicants regarding their eligibility for various scholarship and grant programs as well as overall application status.
Interviews and counsels students, parents, and others regarding eligibility and renewal requirements; oversee overall scholarship retention.
Analyzes and processes various types of aid applications and awards financial aid packages according to university, state, and federal regulations.
Disseminates information regarding scholarship and grant policies and procedures to various on and off campus stakeholders; occasional group presentations regarding student aid.
Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday 8 – 5; occasional nights or weekends for special events; on-campus position
