Job Title: Director of Alumni Relations and the Annual Fund
Department: Advancement
Reports To: Vice President for University Relations
Location: On-site
FLSA Status: Exempt
Time Requirements: In addition to a full 40-hour work week, some travel to regional alumni events is required. Some weekends and nights required to attend stakeholder and University events.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of Alumni Relations Coordinator and work study students as necessary
Summary Description: The Director is responsible for increasing alumni engagement.
Essential Functions:
* As an intentionally Christian academic community, Christian employees are hired to advance the mission of Carson-Newman as expressed in our strategic plan, Acorns to Oaks.* Coordination and oversight of Homecoming week events including but not limited to all activities on Henderson Lawn, the alumni and friends pancake breakfast, 50th reunion dinner, Founders Day Chapel, and alumni awards presentations.* Help plan, coordinate and host alumni & friends' dinner during the annual state Baptist Convention.* Facilitate the meeting of the Alumni Advisory Board as requested by the board chairman and maintain necessary records of meetings.* Advise and work with VP for University Relations of special events for inclusion in calendar as well as Alumni Board meeting dates, times, agenda and provide post-meeting minutes.* Work with marketing department to communicate alumni news to stakeholders.* Enter all constituent interaction, news, events, and updates into Slate regularly.* Serve as budget officer for the office of Alumni Relations and Annual Fund, including the C-N Faculty/Staff Retiree Committee* Work and coordinate with Alumni Relations Coordinator to monitor and respond appropriately to cnalum@cn.edu email account as well as social media accounts of the Carson-Newman Alumni Association* Create and execute comprehensive, multi-year annual giving/strategic communications plans that will result in substantial revenue growth and constituent awareness.* Develop strategic solicitation calendar for Annual Fund with a goal of at least two annual appeals.* Provide input in annual strategic planning process.* Plan alumni events and dinners throughout the year both locally and regionally.* Cultivate alumni donor relationships.* Oversee and supervise the work of the Alumni Relations Coordinator* Lead the overall vision, strategic planning, management, and execution of an alumni engagement program that is focused on developing and strengthening short and long-term meaningful relationships with alumni.* Coordinate all fund-raising activities and encourage online giving and utilization of employer's matching gift programs.* Assist Enrollment Management in involving alumni with the recruiting process.* Serve as the primary relationship manager to Alumni and manages a defined portfolio of individual and private foundation donors and prospects to assist in reaching or exceeding annual fund goal (e.g. sending relevant and personal communications, scheduling regular donor visits)* Cultivate and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Alumni, Major Gifts and Development teams to support institutional prospect research for campaign and presidential initiatives.* Create alliances with key University departments interfacing with prospective corporate donors such as Alumni Engagement, Career Services, Athletics, and Student Leadership and Engagement, while working to engage alumni connections.* Coordinate and plan the faculty/staff retirees fall and spring meetings* Other duties as needed and assigned by supervisor
Education:Bachelor's degree preferred
Experience: Minimum three years of experience working in higher education or comparable environment.
Required Skills: Excellent written and oral communication. Ability to communicate effectively with and relate to people from diverse backgrounds. Superior organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Basic.
Physical Demands: Extended amounts of time sitting at a computer. Periodically working events that require standing for extended periods of time as well as lifting items in excess of 30 pounds.
