Associate Director, Alumni Relations

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director of Alumni Relations plays a key role in advancing Westminster University's mission by fostering strong relationships with alumni and driving alumni engagement through strategic communications and event programming. This position is responsible for overseeing the marketing and communications efforts of the Alumni Relations office, as well as developing and executing alumni engagement programs and events.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Marketing and Communications (60%)
- Strategy Development: Lead the development and execution of comprehensive alumni communications strategies, including email campaigns, newsletters, social media, and digital content to promote alumni engagement, events, and initiatives.
- Content Creation: Write, edit, and design content for alumni communications, ensuring consistent brand messaging and alignment with university goals. Manage the alumni email communications and social media platforms.
- Campaign Management: Oversee marketing campaigns related to key alumni initiatives, including reunion events, fundraising efforts, and alumni recognition.
- Data Analysis: Track and analyze engagement metrics to measure the effectiveness of alumni communications and continuously optimize strategies for improvement.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Westminster Marketing and Communications team to ensure alignment with the broader university messaging and support university-wide campaigns targeting alumni.
Alumni Engagement Programming and Event Planning (30%)
- Event Coordination: Plan, organize, and execute alumni events such as Westminster Weekend, regional alumni gatherings, and the Alumni Awards.
- Program Development: Develop and implement alumni engagement initiatives that foster a sense of community, lifelong learning, and connection to Westminster University.
- Volunteer Management: Collaborate with alumni volunteers and board members to create meaningful engagement opportunities and leverage their support for key events.
- Relationship Building: Cultivate relationships with alumni across various industries, regions, and backgrounds to enhance their engagement with the university.
- Campus Collaboration: Collaborate with departments across campus to gain institutional buy-in and support for programming initiatives.
- Alumni Board Engagement: Work in concert with the Director of Alumni Relations and Alumni Board members to create meaningful opportunities for alumni to connect with each other, the college community, and current/prospective students.
Administrative (10%)
- Data Management: Maintain alumni database and ensure engagement tracking.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on alumni engagement metrics, communications performance, and event outcomes to inform strategic planning.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and four years of related paid or unpaid experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Proven ability to manage projects from conception through completion.
- Hands-on experience with digital communications and networking trends, including social media, email marketing, and virtual networking/engagement platforms.
- Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations.
- High professional standards, with an eye for creativity and great attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal skills are a must.
- High organizational ability, adherence to strict deadlines, and ability to manage concurrent projects and priorities.
- Ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives respectfully and inclusively.
- Experience researching topics to gain knowledge and understanding when information gaps exist.
- Ability to work some evenings and weekends.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Alumni of Westminster University.
- Design experience using Canva.
- Experience in in alumni relations, or other higher education functions.
- Experience managing constituencies on a CRM platform.
- Grant writing experience.
