---- Job Details: General Notes The University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin) seeks an organized and driven Assistant Director of Operations for the Learning Directed Operating System (LDOS) Project. LDOS is a large multi-institution grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) CISE Expeditions in Computing program, led by Professor Aditya Akella at UT Austin in the Department of Computer Science, the home of multiple top 10 programs (U.S. News and World Report.) The project seeks to transform computer operating systems with assistance from advanced AI. The five-year $12M project aims to develop key LDOS research foundations, use cases/demonstrations spanning cloud/edge computing and robotics, and novel educational modules and experiences at the intersection of machine learning and computer systems. LDOS involves co-PIs from UW-Madison, UIUC, and UPenn as well as collaborators from industry partners at Amazon 16 Labs, Bosch, Broadcom, Cisco, Google, Microsoft, and TACC. Longer term, LDOS is expected to become a core Research Center under the Machine Learning Laboratory. Must be eligible to work in the United States on a full time basis for any employer without sponsorship. Purpose The Assistant Director of Operations will serve as LDOS's lead staff member, overseeing all project operations and reporting to the faculty director. Ideal candidates will be excited to help advance machine learning and computer systems research and education and interested to grow with our organization as we expand. If you are motivated to work in one of the most prestigious, exciting, and impactful research and educational programs at UT Austin, you will enjoy working with the faculty, students, and staff at LDOS. Responsibilities Support the Faculty Director to ensure all deliverables associated with the LDOS Expedition grant are executed on time, including serving as staff liaison to the NSF. In partnership with the Events Coordinator, assist with all major LDOS events and meetings, including NSF site visits, demonstrations, yearly workshops, and meetings with industry partners. Coordinate the completion of the annual report, site visit documents, and other associated reporting tasks, taking a leading role in organizing writing and editing non-technical aspects, formatting, report submittal and other activities involving Research.gov, etc. Interface with the CS Grant Administration Team. In partnership with the Director of Industry Relations, work to secure and steward partnerships for the industry affiliates program, which will comprise the core network of LDOS corporate research relationships. Track financials in coordination with the Financial Analyst, and implement actions with the Faculty Director based on target expenditure rate. Maintain an in-depth awareness of all LDOS programs and progress, including projects, events, and meetings. Attend all major LDOS meetings and events to document relevant information for reports and/or coordination for communications and website updating. In coordination with the Faculty Director, ensure annual report critiques, reviewer comments, advisory board comments, SWOT analysis, are implemented into yearly action plans. Maintain and regularly update all files related to LDOS, including publications, lists of projects, participant tables, events, and resources. Draft meeting minutes for all LDOS meetings, as assigned. Ensure LDOS website and pages are up-to-date, coordinating content with the Communications Coordinator and Webmaster. Coordinate with and assist Department of Computer Science staff to facilitate completion of Education and Workforce Development and Broadening Participation in Computing offerings in keeping with LDOS grant deliverables. In particular, work with CS staff to organize LDOS-related Summer Academies and track metrics for participants. Serve as the principal organizer of the undergraduate summer schools, research Workshops, etc. This will include leading the development of application and participant selection processes, marketing materials/recruiting processes, serving as the main POC to participants, interfacing with CS Financial Team to pay participants, etc. Engage with stakeholders internal and external to the university to inform LDOS initiatives. Other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of program management and/or support of strategic initiatives. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with constant and multiple ongoing deadlines. Ability to manage long-term projects, prioritize, and proactively ensure deadlines are met. Ability to act as a facilitator and a consensus builder. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills. Experience dealing with confidential information or the ability to keep information confidential. Familiarity with Web content creation and management, and associated systems such as Drupal. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications

Graduate degree in a scientific field, preferably in computer science, computer engineering, data science, or mathematics. Familiarity working with the NSF or comparable granting agencies, including reporting and/or grant management. Experience with financial management and forecasting. Experience organizing and leading events and meetings. Experience collaborating with faculty. Higher education experience within an academic college or department. Familiarity with the field of machine learning and/or operating systems. Salary Range
