Job DescriptionOverview:Juilliard's Media Production Department is seeking a Senior Mixing & Production Engineer to execute and collaborate on audio and video capture, recording studio sessions, livestreaming, and archival/public post-production in collaboration with our team of media professionals. We are in an exciting time at Juilliard exploring new media capabilities with the 2023 launch of livestreaming and on-demand features on Juilliard LIVE, curriculum development and student recordings in the newly renovated recording studio, and the expansion of our digital archive. The department's work provides broad public access to high-quality, free arts experiences and adds visibility to our ongoing fundraising efforts to make a Juilliard education ever more affordable.The Senior Mixing & Production Engineer is a highly trained specialist who can oversee and execute the technical and artistic requirements of Juilliard's media operations with a focus on live and post-production mixing/mastering and working directly on live productions. Reporting to the Head of Media Engineering, their role is to guide and support a team of audio/video engineers and set standards for the highest possible production value with sensibility toward the curricular and artistic goals as required by each project. This role requires excellent communication skills and a strong artistic mixing and mastering background. The ability to troubleshoot and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment with a variety of artists and administrators is required, along with positive collaboration, clear decision-making, and exercising good judgement on behalf of Juilliard students and their education. Remote work is permissible 1-2 days per week on request and based on on-site requirements of the department. The salary for this role is $80-90,000 per year. Mix and master multitrack and stereo recordings for a variety of digital outlets including web, radio, broadcast, social media, and more. Ability to prioritize, approve, and execute post-production with a focus on audio mixes and mastering (independently and with other engineers) for Juilliard's archives and Juilliard LIVE, Juilliard's streaming and on-demand platform, under strict deadlines with exacting quality standards. Lead, collaborate, and engineer special projects and recording sessions in the newly renovated Recording Studio that include audio and video. Configure and support Juilliard's Media Production Department technical systems with networked AV (Audio Visual) equipment (Ross, Dante, Riedel Bolero), livestreaming encoders, and hosting platforms. Provide engineering team with guidance and develop culture of professionalism for performance and event operations, acting as Engineer in Charge on specific projects. Attend and participate in production meetings and walk-throughs determining the technical requirements of performance captures and live streams in collaboration with the Video Production Manager and interfacing with producing departments. Manage media and file organization on MacOS systems and Windows computers. Qualification: 7 or more years of experience in a media broadcast, digital, recording studio, and/or live performance environment with a proven track record of delivering high-quality recordings. A discerning ear and in-depth knowledge of microphone and acoustic recording techniques for orchestra, chamber music, jazz, opera, historical performance, drama, film, dance, and more. Expertise in ProTools. Proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of producing teams, performing artists, academic and administrative personnel, and creative personalities. Ability to work evenings and weekends based on performances and events calendar. Preferred Background: Performing arts background is preferred but not required.
