JOB LOCATION:King Elementary - off site from Grubb YMCA
SHIFTS AVAILABLE: 2:30p-6:00p
PAY RANGE: $14.75-$18.00/hour - based on qualification
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: September 4, 2024 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position is responsible for assisting the Youth Development Site Coordinator and fostering a sense of belonging in youth, providing opportunities for youth to feel achievement, and helping youth build healthy positive relationships.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Support the direction provided by the Leader of the program.
  2. Fills the role of Leader when the Leader is not there.
  3. Assist in creating an atmosphere that fosters a sense of belonging among youth, helps them gain confidence through achievement and builds relationships with and among youth.
  4. Assist in creating and maintaining a safe environment both physically and emotionally for all youth
  5. Help to establish a relaxed, feel to activities, with more emphasis on the how and the why of the activities than on the activities themselves.
  6. Help to lead, supervise, evaluate and provide feedback for the staff team.
  7. Help to engage leaders and youth in the planning of activities.
  8. Assist with planning and orchestrating program's daily flow.
  9. Help to make sure schedules, supplies, materials, etc. are ready for each day.
  10. Maintain the Y-Voice in all that you say, do, and think in regards to the program ~ Welcoming, Nurturing, Hopeful, Determined, Genuine.
  11. Establish positive relationships with youth and parents.
  12. Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them to others.
  13. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
  14. Demonstrates and supports the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age
  3. Minimum of one (1) years of work experience with youth
  4. Approval by State of Iowa Licensing requirements including pre-employment physical
  5. Previous experience working with youth is preferred
  6. Current Red Cross CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting
  7. Intro to Y's Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting
  8. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity
  2. Ability to perform moderate physical activity
  3. Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/ indoor settings
  4. Remain alert, with no lapses of consciousness, in a warm environment with air temperatures of 80 degrees or higher
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  5. Ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously
  6. Ability to teach/train program activities
  7. Attend trainings and/or courses as required by the YMCA
