Are you ready to go beyond?What You Will DoPratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications.Develop and managing processes for ceramic matrix addition by Chemical Vapor Deposition/Infiltration (CVD/I) to produce ceramic matrix composites.Work closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated teams to develop new processes and implement new designs into production to enhance material performance, eliminate quality turn backs, escapes, and reduce overall product costs.Apply Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC) technical understanding to drive material development and refinement strategies.Play an active role in the Integrated Product Team process for CMC turbine components.Provide focused & effective leadership in eliminating EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues as processes transition into production.Create and implement strategies for automation to improve quality and minimize process costIdentify & implement shop floor process optimization, control methods, and work instructions (including specifications, engineering changes, QAD/process control, and tooling definition/requirements.)Lead the strategy for comprehensive data collection and analysis from this process that will support robust process development and understanding as part of the digital thread for CMCs. This includes establishing methods for data collection, data analysis and data visualization to enable statistical process control (SPC).Establish metrics for the process including yield, cost, cycle time, capacity, safety, delivery etc.Monitor outcomes to identify and implement improvement opportunitiesLead the advancement of Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) and support hardware production for Technology Readiness Level (TRL) demonstrationConduct root cause investigations as required and implement corrective actionsTraining of engineers and techniciansMonitor and improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) through implementation of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practicesIdentify, investigate, and implement new technology to address business goalsSupport a 24/7 operation as requiredQualifications You Must HaveBachelor's degree in engineering or Material Science and 10+ years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 7+ years of relevant experienceUS Citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contractQualifications We PreferDegree in Chemical, Materials Science, or Composites Engineering disciplineExperience developing new processes and successful transition to production.Experience making, testing, or analyzing Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs)Extensive experience and knowledge with Chemical Vapor Deposition/Infiltration (CVD/I) and melt infiltration (MI) processes.Strong oral and written communication skillsAbility to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influenceAbility to lead small teams to deliver outstanding results and overcome challengesKnowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirementsWhat We OfferRelocationBenefitsWhat is my role type?In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
