Summary/Objective: The Manufacturing Engineering (MEG) Managerleads an engineering team to develop new and improve existing cable manufacturing processes and automation equipment. The Manager is responsible for defining and implementing a Manufacturing Engineering strategy that supports new and emerging cable manufacturing technical needs and manufacturing scalability. The Manager also oversees the development and optimization of manufacturing processes to achieve required manufacturing capability and cost efficiency.
Essential Functions/ Responsibilities:
- Manage the cable manufacturing engineering department including process engineers, controls and mechanical engineers, and machine engineering technicians.
- Work with engineering teams to develop and standardize processes, equipment designs, control systems. Maximize design re-use of common process and equipment functions.
- Develop best practices for engineering workflows including stage gate review processes, root cause analysis tools, appropriate statistical methodologies, and lean six sigma principles.
- Work with cable product engineering to align to product roadmaps and requirements for new products to ensure manufacturability.
- Manage planning and execution of capital appropriation requests for development of new equipment, manufacturing capacity, and optimization projects.
- Manage sustaining engineering resources to investigate quality problems and support unplanned manufacturing floor issues.
- Work with Operations team establish reporting systems and KPIs, drive continuous improvement opportunities, create optimized floor layouts, and establish high volume manufacturing strategies.
- Lead engineering team in prioritizing projects, managing resource allocation, and managing and communicating project progress to ensure on-time successful completion.
- Ensure all safety regulatory policies and procedures are implemented and maintained at all times.
Required Experience:
- 7-10 years related engineering experience in manufacturing.
- 3-5 years of management experience.
- Wire and cable manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Knowledgeable in automated machine design and industrial control systems.
- Ability to apply process development and six sigma methodologies and tools.
- Ability to apply and coach good engineering practices throughout a project lifecycle.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership skills with ability to promote collaboration among multiple groups both on-site and off-site.
- Lifting Requirements: Light Work - must be able to lift up to 20 pounds regularly from floor to waist.
- B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, or Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline is required.
- Lean six sigma green belt or black belt is preferred.
