Do you like accounting? Do you enjoy preparing and processing accounting documents and transactions? Well then look no further; the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for a detail-oriented person to help perform accounting functions in the Region Two office. You will perform a variety of accounting activities that may include payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, travel, audit research and other related accounting tasks. You will support professional staff, such as accountants, payroll, budget officers, auditors, and others. Other duties you will perform include reviewing documents for completeness and accuracy, performing adjustments to data and accounts, preparing reports, and creating, filing, and retrieving files. Principle Duties As an Accounting Technician III, you will: Research/prepare/enter/process vendor accounts payable, damage claim accounts receivable, purchasing card logs, vehicle trip logs, internal department charges, and employee reimbursements. Review/Reconcile vendor/customer invoices, statements, and documentation checking for accuracy, authorizations, exceptions, discounts, taxes, policy/contract adherence, etc. Review payroll time entries, correct errors, enter/approve manual adjustments, and review payroll reports for accuracy. Review documents for accuracy and reconcile discrepancies, make needed adjustments. Enter data into a computer system and retrieve, correct, or delete previously entered data. Receive, research and respond to incoming questions or complaints; provide information, explain policy and procedures, and/or facilitate a resolution. Write or draft correspondence, reports, documents and/or other written materials. Provide administrative support. Review data, records and files for detailed accuracy. The Ideal Candidate The best candidate for this position will have: Accounts receivable, accounts payable, and/or accounting experience. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets. Organizational skills with attention to detail. Excellent communication skills. Preferences Preference may be given to those who have at least one of the following: Current or previous experience working for a State of Utah department. Current or previous UDOT experience. Review and/or edit documents for accuracy and completeness. Bookkeeping procedures. Use automated accounting computer systems. Make a decision or solve a problem by using logic to identify key facts, explore alternatives, and propose quality solutions. Use computer systems such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Google Sheets and Google Docs. Compile, code, categorize, calculate, tabulate, audit, verify, or process information or data. Operate a computer keyboard. Operate a 10 key numerical pad by touch. Enter, scan, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form. Principles, practices and procedures of an office environment. Speak clearly, concisely and effectively; listen to, and understand, information and ideas as presented verbally. Communicate information and ideas clearly, and concisely, in writing; read and understand information presented in writing. Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism. Establish, organize and/or maintain files. Find, gather and collect information or data. Supplemental Information Here is some information you should be aware of: Physical Requirements - Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts; driving an automobile, etc. No special physical demands are required to perform the work. Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc. Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
