Engineering Technician, Vehicle Firmware, QA

The Engineering Technician on the Firmware System Validation team will be responsible for executing system level tests on Tesla vehicles. As firmware at Tesla is changing rapidly and is being released to customers at an unprecedented rate, the need to test every release iteratively to catch issues quickly is of high priority. You will work with developers, product managers and designers to ensure delivery of great experience with new features. Scope contains but is not limited to driving, safety/security, autopilot, charging, closures, updates, UI, etc. Attention to detail is key as test results will provide debug and steps to drive a firmware fix. Additionally, you will help with vehicle level automation platform bring-up, supporting hardware integration, instrumentation, and troubleshooting.The ideal candidate will be a highly inquisitive and analytical - attention to detail is key.
Responsibilities
- Conduct system level tests on Tesla vehicles upon every Firmware release
- Support critical releases, with critical timelines
- Vehicle behaviors include but are not limited to: Driving, autopilot, charging, closures, windows, updates, and UI
- Integrate automation hardware, and instrumentation into test vehicles
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues on automation vehicles
- Debug issues on various Tesla vehicle features and components
- Communicate issues discovered clearly and directly to developers and program managers
- Track persistent bugs and conduct iterative tests on releases to pinpoint when bugs were introduced
- Valid driver's license required
- 2+ years of Software Testing/QA Engineer experience
- Strong electrical fundamentals and troubleshooting skills
- Team player yet capable of being highly independent
- Enjoys working on exciting time-critical projects
- Good logical reason and understanding of basic physics
- Able to communicate (written/verbal) issues and concerns clearly across the Firmware org
- Proficiency in general data analysis
- Knowledge of CAN architecture highly desired
- Electrical debugging experience highly desired

$35.15 - $51.73/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
