The Vehicle Dynamics Team is responsible for leading all aspects of the driving experience related to vehicle dynamics on all current and future Tesla vehicle products. Responsibilities of the Technician is to prepare the team's fleet of vehicles that support objective measurement and hardware/software tuning. In addition, support cross-functional partners such as NVH, Modelling, Chassis, and Thermal with vehicle level support, development projects, and testing.
This position will work as a member of Tesla's Vehicle Dynamics team to support full vehicle and sub-system tests that spans across in-house development locally and at external proving grounds and test tracks globally. The role requires providing industry leading vehicle support to support delivering best in class ride, steering, handling, and braking attributes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead vehicle preparation, component upgrades, and maintenance of vehicle dynamics fleet including vehicle firmware deployment and troubleshooting
  • Perform and streamline vehicle component changes (tires, springs, stabilizer bars, dampers, bushings, drive units, etc.) during tuning sessions
  • Install data acquisition equipment to include sensors (i.e. accelerometers, gyros, thermocouples, strain gauges, load cells, pressure transducers, torque sensors, displacement sensors, CAN bus traffic, GPS, etc.) for the purposes of objective measurement
  • Drive vehicles according to engineering fleet guidelines in order to conduct data collection or error state troubleshooting
  • Travel and/or transport vehicles to facilities around the country and internationally, including test centers, proving grounds, winter tests, press events, and test tracks
  • Create and follow daily work plans to achieve test plan goals on schedule with the ability to adjust to change frequently to successfully accomplish job duties
  • Use strong communication skills to stay highly organized and keep a clean work environment
Requirements
  • Automotive technician degree or equivalent work experience
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide variety of hand and power tools, shop tools, diagnostic scan tools, and shop equipment for the servicing of automobiles including wheel mounting/balancing and vehicle wheel alignment
  • Experience with high-performance or luxury vehicles, electric vehicles and motorsports experience preferred
  • Experience with software collaboration tools such as cloud based software, Atlassian, or Dealer Management Systems
  • Experience with MoTeC data acquisition systems and MoTeC i2 preferred
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (20-30%)
  • Valid driver's license required. Driving Certifications such as TRC Level 2 or equivalent preferred

      $28.80 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits

      Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
