Peer Recovery Specialist

Annual Salary: $31,362

Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Position Overview:

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking a compassionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Peer Recovery Specialist. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing peer support, acting as a consumer advocate, and assisting individuals in meeting their basic physical, financial, social, personal, and recovery needs. The Peer Recovery Specialist position is based within our Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit (RCSU), which is licensed by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) for Crisis Stabilization Services.

Peer Recovery Specialist Responsibilities:
  • Provide peer support to individuals in crisis, fostering a sense of understanding, empathy, and encouragement.
  • Act as a consumer advocate, ensuring that individuals' voices are heard and respected in their treatment and recovery process.
  • Assist individuals with basic physical, financial, social, personal, and recovery needs.
  • Monitor and assess individuals' progress, providing support and encouragement as needed.
  • Advocate for clients within the community and with other service providers.
  • Provide daily living support, including assistance with tasks that promote independence and stability.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized recovery plans.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.

Peer Recovery Specialist Requirements: Must be a person who has experienced a mental health and/or substance use condition and who has a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery, including making progress in learning about and managing his or her condition and in developing a life outside of, or in addition to, this condition. Must complete the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire. Valid driver's license.

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
