Your day as a Peer Recovery Specialist I - Crisis Stabilization

The Peer Recovery Specialist position at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is ideal for individuals passionate about making a difference in the lives of those facing mental health or substance use challenges. As a key member of the team in our Regional Crisis Stabilization Unit (RCSU), you will have the opportunity to provide essential peer support, act as a consumer advocate, and assist individuals in meeting various recovery needs. Your role will involve fostering empathy, monitoring progress, advocating for clients, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care. By maintaining accurate documentation and offering daily living support, you will help individuals achieve greater independence and stability.

Are you the Peer Recovery Specialist I - Crisis Stabilization we're looking for?

To excel as a Peer Recovery Specialist at Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board, candidates must possess firsthand experience with mental health or substance use challenges, demonstrating at least 12 months of successful recovery and personal growth. The ability to effectively utilize tools such as the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within the required time-frame is essential. Additionally, candidates should hold a valid driver's license to fulfill job responsibilities effectively. Successful candidates will showcase empathy, resilience, and a commitment to continuous self-improvement while supporting individuals on their recovery journey. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and a dedication to maintaining professional standards in a flexible and customer-focused setting.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Must be a person who has experienced a mental health and/or substance use condition and who has a minimum of 12 months of successful recovery including making progress in learning about and managing his or her condition and in developing a life outside of or in addition to this condition. Must complete the DBHDS 72-hour Peer Recovery Specialist Training within 6 months of hire. Valid driver's license.
