How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region: The Manager, Accounting provides hands-on, proactive leadership and daily work direction. This position ensures that financial controls are appropriately used in the gathering of financial data for Operations and Capital transactions and verifies that all necessary financial controls and procedures are being used to gather information that is included in all financial reports. Proficiency in financial reporting, GAAP, GASBs, month-end processes, financial analysis, account reconciliation, understanding policies and procedures, managing staff, and customer service is necessary for success in this position. This position is eligible for a hybrid (both remote and onsite) telework arrangement. The candidate's permanent residence must be in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Responsibilities: Provide overall leadership and direction to the General Ledger team in the development of the Council’s Annual Financial Report, Annual state audit, Federal and state reporting for grant monies and for internal management and ad-hoc financial reports. Act as the primary advisor for financial theory (Governmental Accounting Standards, (GASB’s) and document the effects of these statements will have on the Council’s financials. Communicate to all finance and areas of impact. Ensure that financial policies and procedures are up to date. Review with end-users and bring to Policy review committee any updates. Monitor compliance with legal/policy requirements and effectiveness of internal controls in our systems and practices. Monitor for new financial policies that need to be in place for the general ledger team. Plan, distribute, assign, counsel, coach and review staff work to assure responsibilities/priorities are addressed timely and accurately (including: 1:1 meeting, team meetings, and performance reviews). Develop goals and benchmarks to evaluate individual performance and customer satisfaction. Lead staff to provide a workplace environment that supports diversity. Minimum Requirements: Any of the following combinations of completed education (in accounting or closely related field) and progressively responsible experience (in accounting): Bachelor's degree or higher with six (6) years of experience, including three (3) years of supervisory/management experience in accounting. OR Associate's degree with eight (8) years of experience, including three (3) years of supervisory/management experience in accounting. OR High school diploma or GED with ten (10) years of experience, including three (3) years of supervisory/management experience in accounting. Desired Qualifications: Degree in Accounting or Finance. Experience working with diverse populations. Experience coaching, developing, and mentoring staff. Experience working in public sector finance, particularly government finance. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles for governmental organizations, Government Standards, Accounting practices and principles. Knowledge of working in complex multifunctional departments, commitment to on-time projects. Knowledge of government annual report preparation. Skills in performance management (coaching, counseling, staff development, performance improvement, discipline). Skills in financial management systems. Skills in preparation of financial statements and analysis. Ability to listen effectively and demonstrate that others are heard. Ability to plan, organize, manage and evaluate work performed. Ability to develop effective, collaborative working relationships. Work Environment: You would perform your work in a standard office setting. Work may sometimes require travel between your primary work site and other sites. Recruitment Process Steps: We review your minimum qualifications.
