THE ORGANIZATION:

Through clinical services, education, and research, The Family Institute at Northwestern University is one of the nation's leading relationship-based behavioral health organizations committed to strengthening and healing children and adolescents, couples, families, and individuals. When you join The Family Institute, you are joining a team of over 230 collaborators comprised of clinicians, educators, researchers, therapists-in-training, partners, and administrators across four service sites. We are strong, independent organization focused on advancing the world of behavioral health.

THE ROLE:

The Data Integration Specialist will partner with operations and academics stakeholders to build data structures and processes to synchronize data across systems and produce meaningful and actionable organizational reporting. The Specialist will extract and manipulate data from several different sources, with a particular focus on education-related data, to provide a standardized and cohesive view of data to organizational leadership. This Specialist will also play a critical role in building and maintaining organizational databases and automation of manual or repetitive tasks. Throughout all work, this position will monitor data sources to enforce best practices and business rules to promote data integrity.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Academics Data Management & Governance
  • Serve as the main contact for education-related data and associated systems.
  • Ensure secure, efficient, and effective access to structured data by maintaining and monitoring organization databases.
  • Document data structures, relationships, and attributes in organizational data dictionaries, and create thorough documentation for maintenance, training, and compliance purposes.
  • Contribute to developing and maintaining data governance policies and procedures to ensure data integrity, availability, and security.
  • Contribute to implementing security measures to protect sensitive data and mitigate risks of data breaches or unauthorized access.
  • Ensure compliance with data security regulations (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA) and organizational policies, including disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Identify and report data integrity issues across data sources, implementing corrective measures to improve data quality and reliability.
Academics Reporting & Visualization
  • Design and maintain education data structures necessary for visualizations and reports.
  • Utilize analytical skills to identify insights and consult with academics stakeholders to understand their data needs, preferences, and feedback to tailor and develop comprehensive reports.
  • Build and maintain advanced education-related reports with appropriate row-level security as requested by end-users.
  • Assist with making data visualizations available on requested platforms (e.g., Power BI and organization's intranet).
Academics User Support & Training
  • Facilitate training sessions and workshops to promote data literacy and empower academics users to utilize data effectively.
  • Assist academics power users in utilizing data views to generate ad-hoc reports, providing training and ongoing support for skill development.
  • Utilize the department ticketing system to obtain position-related end-user support requests, and work with the users to resolve their issues.
  • Identify opportunities for training and professional development initiatives to enhance team capabilities and performance.
Organization Database Administration & Automation
  • Build and maintain extract, transform, and load (ETL) processes for database population and application integrations, adhering to industry best practices and compliance regulations.
  • Enhance efficiency and streamline data processing by deploying automated solutions. Utilize tools like Microsoft Power Automate, or comparable platforms, to create custom automation scripts and tools. These will focus on automating routine tasks, cleaning data, and facilitating seamless data integration.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., academics, clinical services, HR, finance) to integrate data from various sources and ensure compatibility and accuracy.
  • Oversee and manage the synchronization of data between different information systems to ensure consistency.
Project Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Manage academics data-related projects from initiation to completion, coordinating tasks and resources effectively to achieve project objectives.
  • Utilize project management methodologies and tools to track progress, manage risks, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and departments to achieve common goals and objectives.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between technical and non-technical academics stakeholders to ensure alignment and mutual understanding.
  • Monitor data quality metrics and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends in data management, analytics, and visualization.
  • Evaluate new tools and methodologies to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Proven experience in handling large datasets and accessing data from a variety of cloud-hosted applications and via APIs.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Power Automate or similar tools to create automated workflows.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, including table and query optimization.
  • Experience using Microsoft PowerBI to design high-impact visualizations on board-level reports.
  • Knowledge of reporting tool utilization in a Microsoft Azure environment.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to derive insights from complex data sets.
  • Passion for showcasing advanced capabilities of existing tools and ability to adapt to evolving technologies and methodologies in the field of data management and analytics.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully managing complex projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and comfortable communicating in-person as well as through video conferencing.
  • Ability to be self-motivated for constant improvement/optimization of existing processes.
  • Proven track record of implementing data security measures and ensuring compliance with regulations; ability to perform the role with the utmost integrity, including maintaining the privacy and protection of organizational data.
  • Familiarity with data governance principles and best practices.
  • Prior experience working in health care or academic settings.
Minimum Hiring Specifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, business, management or other related fields, or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of four years of work experience, two of which include performing similar duties.
  • Excellent structured query language skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain ETL scripts.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server management studio environment.
  • Ability to create thorough documentation for maintenance and end-user training.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and various delimited text file formats for data processing and movement.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
