About Us

Harlem Grown's mission is to inspire youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition.

Harlem Grown operates 13 urban agricultural sites featuring 5 soil-based urban farms, 4 school gardens, 3 hydroponic greenhouses, and a mushroom chamber. All of our sites are located between 122 and 152 Streets in Central Harlem, Manhattan.

Since 2021, our programming has served over 10,000 youth in Harlem, we've produced and distributed over 100,000 servings of food, and diverted over 50,000 pounds of food scraps into local compost operations.

Our Programs

Harlem Grown provides youth and community development programs focused on urban farming, wellness, and sustainability through the lens of racial justice, food justice, social justice, and equity. Our youth focused programs include intensive school partnerships, educational farm tours, a summer camp, a Saturday enrichment program, monthly community events, an afterschool program, and our Mobile Teaching Kitchen. Our community development programs open to all ages include wellness workshops, special events, food scrap collection for composting, and fresh produce distribution to participants, volunteers, and neighborhood residents.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Operations Director, our Finance Coordinator will work to contribute to the financial resiliency of the Harlem Grown by supporting detailed and accurate accounting functions, meeting all accounting organizational policy and regulatory standards, assisting with problem solving, supporting teams with budgeting and forecasting, managing restricted asset reconciliation, and collaborating on process improvement with our finance and operations team to support the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Review invoices, employee reimbursements, and accounts payable submitted for accuracy, ensuring accurate coding and documentation for all transactions
  • Facilitate payables and reimbursement approval process. Enter and process payments after the approval process is complete
  • Ensure accurate transaction-level coding of all restricted assets at least quarterly, providing complete financial reports to the Development Team no less than 1 month prior to grant report due dates.
  • Reconcile organization credit card and purchase card usage, receipt tracking, and expense coding
  • Act as a point of contact for the staff regarding coding questions for expenses or reimbursements as well as status updates for all payables
  • Prepare deposit records for check deposits, credit card and ACH donations processed as well as assist in handling of cash receipts as necessary
  • Support monthly reconciliation of other fundraising merchant services data to accounting records
  • Support special projects to continuously improve, automate, and scale forecasting and reporting tools, processes, and methodologies
  • Organize and maintain all financial filings; ensure monthly financial statements are downloaded and available in both electronic and paper files
  • Support the annual audit process, month end process, including reconciliations of outside data sources to internal accounting data
  • Assist in the annual budget process as well as ad-hoc report requests
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of all work, researching/reconciling all discrepancies and performing internal audits as needed
  • Ensure compliance on all accounting and internal control policies, procedures and systems
  • Ensure compliance with all government regulations and funder requirements regarding financial practices and recording.
  • Complete and coordinate special projects and research assignments as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree along with 1-2+ year(s) of experience in a finance/administrative position
  • Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
  • Familiarity with Quickbooks Online, SalesForce, and/or other comparable accounting software
  • Strong organizational skills with with a keen attention to detail
  • Comfort with using technology to generate and analyze data strategically
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills

This is a full-time, non-exempt position.

Compensation Range

$27-$29 USD
