Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer Salary: up to £55,200 per annum dependent upon experience Location: Portsmouth We currently have a vacancy to join one of the world’s leading, global defence, security and aerospace companies as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. The role will be based in Portsmouth but offers the opportunity for hybrid working and flexible working hours. The expectation is to be on site 2 days per week and remote working 3 days a week. As the UK’s largest concentration of specialist Underwater Weapons design and development engineers, they offer a unique infrastructure, with the expertise, tools, and facilities to design and develop Underwater Weapons in a safe and secure environment. Main Responsibilities: Responsible for designing and developing key Mechanical systems within the Underwater Weapons sector Providing technical engineering support and guidance to mechanical engineering design activities for new and legacy products Undertaking functional design and/or providing qualification and evidence for acceptance, fitness for purpose, regulatory & legislative requirements, and safety Providing assurance that the design is adequate i.e., it is robust, and provide supporting documentation for the safety case Contributing to and leading design review discussions/meetings Assisting Engineering Governance and Requirements Capture activities Taking part in supplier/stakeholder meetings Supporting the development of other early careers engineers within the discipline Benefits: Enhanced Pension scheme- up to 14% combined Flexible working pattern including working from home/ flexible start and finish times 25 holiday days plus bank holidays- 26 days after 5 years’ service/ 27 days after 10 years’ service Shared Incentive Plan Employee Assistance Programme Cycle to Work Scheme Life Assurance (you and your spouse/partner)- 6 x salary Ill Health Income Protection/ Private Medical Insurance- 50% of salary About You: Have a detailed understanding of the principles and approaches underpinning mechanical engineering design and development. Will have an understanding, knowledge, and experience in mechanical engineering design and development of systems, sub-systems, assemblies and components. Strongly desirable to have experience in one of the following: Thermal Systems, Fluid Systems, HP Systems, Computational Fluid Dynamics. Requires excellent communication and diplomacy skills; must understand technical instructions and be able to communicate technical information to others. Typically, be at CEng level (or equivalent level of capability) or in the final stages of achieving CEng status.
