ResponsibilitiesDevelop effective environmental and safety programs to assure compliance with applicable regulations.Develop the facility's safety and environmental training requirements.Support the activities of the plant through effective communication with operations and/or outside agencies.Coordinate with corporate management in development and implementation of company-wide safety and environmental programs, policies, and practices.Assist the Facility Controller with the management of the hazardous material storage and removal systems to minimize facility exposure and to assure compliance with applicable regulations.Manage hazardous waste storage and removal systems to minimize facility exposure and to assure compliance with applicable regulations.Assure employee involvement in overall safety, health, and environmental programs at all levels.Perform plant-wide assessments of safety, health, and environmental performance.Introduce for management consideration new safety and environmental policies and practices as they become necessary.In conjunction with the facility financial staff, coordinate annual budget activities and assure that accurate reports to management are produced. Establish and maintain the facility Environmental, Health and Safety policy manuals.Coordinate EPA, OSHA and DOT compliance activities in conjunction with the corporate staffs and provides regular reports to management regarding compliance status, the cost of compliance, and the results of inspections.Participate in the facility-wide assessment programs with the support of corporate staffs to assure that plant programs are effectively controlling exposures to loss and in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.Ensure development of comprehensive local aspects including environmental program activities that can be integrated into the environmental management systemFacilitate the implementation and improvement of local aspects of the environmental management systemEnsure that internal assessments are conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the safety and environmental management systemsInterface with the corporate Environmental and Safety Management Representative as the site's primary point of contactExplain and interpret environmental and safety management systems and assessment issues to demonstrate conformance to the appropriate management systemFollow up on local open issues to bring closureReport on the local compliance status regarding the Pilkington safety and environmental management systems.Ensure Union VP is trained and competent to undertake all EHS duties assigned.Adherence to NSG/Pilkington Standards of Business Conduct and its Values and PrinciplesOther duties as assigned by managerDirect ReportsFacility Occupational Nurse-RNEHS SpecialistEHS Technician - Union VP fills these dutiesTop 3 Competencies Needed for Success in the Role:Develops safety as a team value - recognizes and reinforces safe leadership behaviors and challenges unsafe behaviors.Creates a vision of a safe, ethical, sustainable environment and drives the organization towards it.Presents recommendations in a logical manner that are aligned with business priorities and is able to persuade stakeholders to take actions that will advance shared interests and business goals.
