Description:

The Center for Academic and Career Success seeks to assist students in achieving their academic and career goals by offering an integrated suite of support services. From freshman year through degree completion, our programs and services help students transition to college, succeed academically, and develop the skills needed to excel in their chosen career field. The Success Coach for TRIO SSS works one-on-one to provide individualized support to qualifying students in need of academic, financial, and career development assistance. The TRIO SSS program serves United States Citizens with demonstrated academic need for support who meet one of three qualifying criteria which include low-income status, a documented disability and/or first-generation college student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized personal and academic counseling, financial literacy education and career coaching to TRIO SSS students based on best practices and current student success research.
  • Evaluate individual needs of TRIO SSS students and assist them in developing and monitoring academic, financial and career success plans.
  • Identify and meet weekly with TRIO SSS Students in the Transitional Program and Academic Recovery Program.
  • Use appropriate college information systems and integrated software programs to identify and connect with TRIO SSS students who become at-risk during the semester. Meet with these students and provide support, monitor progress, and improve student learning outcomes.
  • Provide individual and small group support to help students develop better study skills, time management, financial literacy, career skills to support academic success and degree completion.
  • Assist students with developing semester course schedules and foster strong relationship building with faculty academic advisors.
  • Coordinate participant referrals to Financial Aid, Tutoring Services, Student Counseling and Accommodative Services and monitor participant services received.
  • Provide academic, financial, or career-related workshops for SSS program participants.
  • Maintain student data and report outcomes on a semester and annual basis.
  • Respond and communicate according to FERPA guidelines with members of the student's success network including parents, faculty, and support staff.
  • Other related duties as assigned by the Director.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's in education or related fields (counseling, college student personnel administration, higher education, social work, etc.). AND 3 years of related experience.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use varied online databases and current Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, OneNote).
  • Ability to work with detail and accuracy, maintain data and create effective reports.
  • Ability to understand and utilize data and statistics.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to promote the College's academic and career support services to the campus community.
  • Highly developed customer service skills.
  • Ability to work some weekends or evenings as needed.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.
Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in Education or related fields (counseling, college student personnel administration, higher education, social work, etc.).
  • Previous experience in a higher education setting working with at risk or underprepared students in either student affairs, academic success, or career support.
  • Computer and software expertise, including expertise in database creation and manipulation; advanced applications and reporting features for Microsoft Office; and knowledge of on-line web-based applications.
